North Shore Oahu Wellness Retreat for Sale

For years I have been visiting and writing about residential properties on the Big Island that have potential as an inn, bed and breakfast, family compound, mini-resort or corporate retreat center. Recently I had the privilege to visit an impressive residential property on the North Shore of Oahu that functions as an exclusive wellness day spa.

Set on five acres at Pupukea, overlooking the famed North Shore surf beaches, this property is currently the personal residence, spa retreat, and skin care lab of Dr. Jurgen Klein, founder of the Jurlique and JK7 lines of high-end, organic skincare products.

A unique residential property with multiple additional structures, the “Sullivan Estate” is quietly being marketed for sale through Hawaii Lifeʻs affiliation with Christieʻs International Real Estate.

Iconic North Shore Oahu Estate

The estate was built in 1962 by prominent Hawaii businessman, entrepreneur and founder of Hawaiiʻs Foodland supermarket chain, Maurice J. “Sully” Sullivan. Locally known as either the “Sullivan Estate” or the “Elvis Presley house,” numerous cool celebrities have vacationed at the private estate from its early days until the present, including Elvis, Bono, Lionel Ritchie, and Owen Wilson.

The interior of the main home of 6 bedrooms was extensively updated by Dr. Klein, who also invested in taking the entire property off the grid with photovoltaic roof tiles keeping the exterior aesthetic of the residence intact.

Day Spa, Wellness Retreat, or Creative Compound?

Mr. Sullivan was a collector of antique cars and had multiple garages for his collection clustered on the hillside above the home. These structures have been transformed into a luxury day spa facility, with treatment rooms (including the multi-sensory experience of the JK7-Antistress Spa Sensator that I canʻt wait to try!). Other structures serve to accommodate therapists and support staff, as well as workrooms where Mr. Klein can work his alchemy with the most luxurious of hand-crafted skin care products.

There is, of course, a swimming pool, exercise room, yoga pavilion, and extensive gardens providing food for the organic vegetarian lunch guests enjoy as part of their wellness experience.

A buyer could continue to operate this as a wellness facility or simply enjoy the extensive facilities for their own personal, corporate or family retreat. I could also envision the structures housing creative spaces for visual or performing artists.

Hereʻs a video that explains the extensive property better than my thousand words…and feel free to call if you have questions after viewing it!
