Family Compound Properties For Sale in Hawi

The oceanfront Hawi property sold by Concierge Auctions last month has us holding our breath, as with a list price of $5.8 million the sale could possibly set a new high sale price for Hawi residential property. If you missed that opportunity, there are currently a half dozen excellent choices in the $1-3 million price point for the Hawi real estate buyer looking for a home on acreage.

Two of the Hawi residential properties for sale already have a pair of permitted homes on them, ideal for an extended family or family compound.

The Stone Crusher Estate has two pod-style dwellings with a total of 8 beds and 6 baths (MLS 624979)

Hawi Option 1: Stone Crusher Estate

The two homes on the 11-acre Stone Crusher Estate, built in 2000, were designed in a style that echoes traditional rural Japanese architecture: lots of wood, sliding doors, spacious lanai surrounding the house from which one can look out into peaceful gardens…and from one house, ocean and Maui views.

Most of the bedrooms are in separate pods joined by the wooden decks, so the homes do not feel overwhelming if only a couple were to be in residence, and yet they give privacy for a large group.

Remember that with the Hawaii County short term vacation rental law having taken effect, properties on land with agricultural designation such as this one cannot be rented for under 30 days. However, something like a corporate retreat would be a possible use for this expansive property. Better understood by viewing a virtual tour than still photos, contact me if youʻd like the video, as this one is my listing.

Hawi Option 2: Updated Plantation-Era Compound

Another property on the market in Hawi features two homes with a total of 5 bedrooms on an acre of land. Set on a flag lot, the mature landscaping and gardens give a sense of privacy to the property.

Two homes — one classic, one new — on an acre lot with mature trees for privacy (MLS 626577)

The original 3 bedroom dwelling of 1,909 sq ft, built in the 1930s, has been updated with hardwood floors and high end finishes in the renovated kitchen and master bathroom.

Updated master bathroom has finishes typical of resort properties like travertine floors, while wide wood trim nods to authentic plantation-era styling

A second guest house was added in 2013 with an additional 2 bedrooms and 2 baths, echoing the style of the first home but with modern double wall construction.

The acre is extensively planted with fruit and flowering trees like plumeria and puakenikeni scenting the air.

If neither of these is the perfect Hawi home for you, let me know your criteria and weʻll start the hunt.
