Two of the less known residential communities within the Mauna Kea Beach Resort are the Bluffs and High Bluffs. The 20 lots comprising the Bluffs community overlook the ocean just to the north of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort, and south of the Mauna Kea Beach Hotel. The nine lots of the High Bluffs are located looking over the Mauna Kea golf course at those same ocean and coastal views.

Two Homes Currently For Sale at Bluffs at Mauna Kea
Last Friday night I was invited to a brokerʻs sunset open house event at one of the two listings currently for sale at the Bluffs at Mauna Kea. The house, designed by the late Hawaiʻi architect Thomas Bingham, a graduate of the Frank Lloyd Wright School of Architecture, spreads its 9,000 sq. ft. over three stories with living, dining and gathering areas on the main areas, beautiful views from upstairs bedrooms, and resort-like features on the ground level.
The Mauna Kea Bluffs home will be sold with furnishings, custom artwork, and the grand piano.
Like other “mini-resort” properties I have highlighted in the past, this is much more than just a residence; it qualifies as a self-contained resort with its infinity edge pool and 3,000 sq. ft. of lanai space; and a big indoor spa, steam room, and massage room.
This tiled spa next to the homeʻs dedicated massage room is not your average hot tub.
Lots for Sale at High Bluffs at Mauna Kea
No homes are for sale at the High Bluffs, but there are two lots listed if your preference is to build to your own taste. The lot size at both the Bluffs and High Bluffs is typically around 37,000 sq. ft., a little less than an acre. That size supports either the ample proportions of the homes found at the Bluffs, or a smaller home with a bit of distance from neighbors.
Elevated ocean views over the Hapuna and Mauna Kea golf courses from High Bluffs Lot 2 (MLS 603776).
The two lots listed are both on the golf course side of the High Bluffs. Lot 2 is fan-shaped, looking over the Mauna Kea golf course to the north, and the final hole of the Hapuna golf course to the south, with over 320 linear feet of ocean-facing boundary. If an ocean view from every room is your objective, this is an opportunity to realize that dream.
Lot 3 comes with plans for a Lucky Bennett home, if you like his signature style (MLS 291290).
Both the Bluffs and High Bluffs are reached through the Hapuna entrance to the Mauna Kea Resort. The recent remodel of the Westin Hapuna Beach Resort is worth checking out, as are the Hapuna Beach Residences under construction, if beachfront condominium living is more your style than an 8,000 sq. ft. home.
