Maui Faces COVID-19 Together

March 25, 2020 marks a day that many did not forsee in their lifetime. Maui Mayor Mike Victorino initiated a Stay at Home order that involves residents of Maui to remain in their homes until April 30, 2020. In the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic and the never-ending reel of news coming through various media sources, Maui residents are coming together to help one another to get through these hard times.

It Starts with Our Kupuna

The CDC reports 80% of deaths associated with COVID-19 are among individuals ≥65 years of age. This has resulted in a number of grocery stores designating times for our Kupuna to shop. Our Kupuna, an organization set out to assist with shopping, retrieving medication, and gathering supplies to minimize the risk of exposure to our community and loved ones.

Companies Spreading Aloha

Maui Brew Company is known for their refreshing delicious beers, but they have another trick up their sleeve…hand sanitizer! MBC is offering hand sanitizer with a take out order. To help maintain “normalcy”, many restaurants are staying open for take out orders to help the community enjoy our favorite meals with our friends and family. Maui Hopeful and Moving Forward

I’m grateful to see the community come together to support each other. More than ever, I see families getting exercise by walking outside while sharing laughs, enjoying each others company, and of course practicing social distancing. Countless posts of creative and fun ways to home school children. The statistics of COVID-19 and the impact worldwide are daunting, but Maui remains strong and hopeful. Together as a community Maui strives for better days and continues to moves forward.

Hawai’i Life Charitable Fund

Hawai’i Life has always been an advocate of the community and is currently taking donations for the Hawaii Resilience Fund. Hawai’i Life will match the first $40,000 in donations received! Please join our efforts to spread the aloha spirit and move forward.
