Hawaii Life Teams Up with Surfrider Maui for A Beach Cleanup on International Surfing Day

Hawaii Life is proud to sponsor the Surfrider Foundation’s International Surfing Day (ISD) on Maui, taking place on June 15th, 2019 at Baldwin Beach Park in Paia!

International Surfing Day is a global event founded in 2005 by the Surfrider Foundation and Surfing Magazine. It’s held in 200+ locations around the world on the third Saturday of June each year. What better way to kick off your weekend than with a free morning yoga class (all levels welcome!), a beach cleanup and a complimentary lunch provided by local Maui businesses to all volunteers. It’s a great day to celebrate and protect what you love – our beautiful coastlines, beaches and ocean waves.

Dave Futch is one of many Hawaii Life agents and brokers on Maui spearheading this year’s efforts to make this event a success. “Hawaii Life Real Estate Brokers’ Maui agents share a common thread with the Surfrider Foundation in that we all want to live our lives on the beaches and help raise awareness of the importance of keeping them clean and safe,” Futch told us.

The beach cleanup is a community effort and one that’s being embraced wholeheartedly by our Maui real estate team. Futch invites all Maui residents to participate. “Many hands make light work and together, we can make sure that this important area will be free from rubbish and things that don’t belong on our shores.  We invite everyone who shares this philosophy and loves the beach to join us…we will make it easy and fun!”

What is the Surfrider Foundation?

The Surfrider Foundation is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to the protection and enjoyment of the world’s oceans, waves and beaches for all people, through conservation, activism, research and education.

In Hawai’i, Surfrider Chapters are located on the islands of O‘ahu, Kaua‘i, Maui, and Hawai‘i.

In addition to coastal preservation, the Surfrider Foundation’s initiatives are focused on issues close to our heart here at Hawaii Life.

These include beach access, clean water, ocean protection and plastic pollution. Read on to find out how you can help protect our oceans and coastlines for little grommets like this one, just learning to surf and enjoy the ocean.

This Year’s Theme: “Protect & Enjoy”

The Maui Surfrider chapter has teamed up with at least 21 of Hawai‘i Life’s Maui real estate agents and their families (and the number keeps growing) to organize an incredible celebration this year. Best news yet….everything is free!

Globally, the Surfrider Foundation and their volunteer activist network work to protect our coasts around the world. On International Surfing Day, they take a moment to celebrate and enjoy the beaches and waves that we all love. “Protect & Enjoy” is this year’s ISD theme as well as a key part of the Surfrider mission.
