Waimea Real Estate Offers Conveniently Located Homes For Families on the Big Island

A few years ago, when a lot of Baby Boomers I knew had built premium properties on the outskirts of Waimea on the Big Island, I noticed an unusual phenomenon. They all had children who went to school in Waimea and many had chosen to live within a reasonable 25 minute radius such as the Kohala Coast or Hamakua Coast.

The draw was there because the rural lifestyle offered privacy and a little slice of land, usually between one to ten acres. That really resonated with all of them. If I could then tell you how many people I knew who had stunning properties, who could not over time continue to drive 20 minutes a day, twice a day to transport their kids, you would be shocked. Many oddly ended up renting small houses in town to be five minutes from school.

Local “Small Talk”

They ended up saving the premium asset they owned, which not to anyone’s surprise, happened to be “time.” They ended up visiting their premium properties on the weekends only and then ended up renting them out when the economy took a tank. This little known “commuting issue” wore down even myself. I moved to town after a grueling 13 years because killing time at the Waimea Park was getting old.

First, it was the soccer practices after school, then it was football practices, and I sat there watching from the car for three hours after school every day of the week. This is what happened to us all and I was thinking, “gee…I could be making dinner right now, or even doing the laundry, but alas the house was 25 minutes away – much too far to drive off and come back in time to pick up the kids.”

Waimea Homes

So in the end, the “small talk” revealed buying the house in town during the kids school years might be a good choice. Check out this home for sale (MLS# 254739), which is a sample of the new homes being built in Waimea. They are located in the center of town close to many of the schools and well worth thinking about. Call me with any Waimea questions. It’s my home!

Mahalo Diane! I like your viewpoint about time, location as it relates to the kids schools, etc. Hey…please don’t forget to share the great deal on the “almost new” house in Luala’i which dropped $10K to $369K. http://www.hawaiilife.com/property254635-1.html

Annie, Yes your unit is really nice I previewed it. It is a terrific buy! I hope Buyers will consider the town location as “Prime” because there is no getting back hours in commuting.
