Barefoot Island Living Above the Green at Kukuiʻula

Aepo Nei 19 begins with stone and ends at the ocean. The walk in passes between two walls of lava stone and through a breezeway open to the sky. Next comes a lawn courtyard, and then the Pacific, seen from an elevated site across the 8th green of Kukuiʻula’s Tom Weiskopf course.

It is an arrival that slows you down, and the rest of the house keeps that pace. Architects+CO designed the brand-new four-bedroom residence as stone below and timber above. Lava walls carry low hipped roofs and teak overhangs, and inside, vaulted teak ceilings, built-in shelving and lava feature walls make the rooms warm and settled. Kauai Bahia Construction developed and built the home. For all that stone, it is relaxed enough to live in barefoot.

Bossa designed the interiors and chose the furniture, which is included. Teak and lava are set against white walls and textiles in navy and green.

Kitchen, dining and living share a single room, and expansive glass walls open it under the same teak ceiling to a generous lānai with a built-in outdoor BBQ. Whoever is cooking stays part of the conversation, and the ocean stays in view.

Afternoons go to the water. A freeform infinity-edge pool curves around the courtyard above terraced lava walls, with a round fire pit set in the water, a jacuzzi alongside and a sauna you swim straight into. A planted outdoor shower, enclosed in lava stone, is open to the sky.

The house faces south-east. Morning light comes from the east across the green, and at sunset the whole sky over the Pacific fills with color. After dark, the fire pit sits under the open sky as the stars come out.

Inside, 3723,356 sq ft holds four bedrooms, four full baths and a half bath, with an island kitchen and a split zoned climate system. Covered parking completes the 12,712 sq ft lot.

Sold fee simple and fully furnished, with membership at the Club at Kukuiʻula required. Aepo Nei 18, next door, is also for sale.
