What a $20 Million Maui Home Looks Like

The $20 Million Dollar View – the two homes to the left and center of this photo are offered (three rooftops) -looking toward Molokai

A once-in-a-lifetime opportunity — these two properties are now offered together for $19,375,000, creating an amazing legacy property. The nine-bedroom home with the Pacific Ocean front yard accommodates 18 people. This would create over 200 feet of direct ocean-frontage, with a 200-degree view extending from the shores of Lahaina, out to Lanai, across the channel to Molokai and up to Kapalua…

Your front yard – no lawn-mowing necessary – looking toward the Island of Molokai with its beautiful valleys and ever-changing cloudscapes

The home to the South is The Tahitian Pavilion. (Watch: Tahitian Pavilion LP Marketing Video)

To the left is 43 Papaua Point, to the right, 39 Papaua Point – both homes could be connected using some imagination

The home to the North is Papaua Point. (Watch: Papaua Point Video)

How would you connect these two homes together?

  • Take down the pole wall dividing the two homes opening up a natural entryway.

  • Perhaps cover both roofs with slate or matching treatment.

  • Wrap the deck around in front of both homes and use stainless steel cables to maximize the view.

History of the Papaua Point homes

Both homes being offered are Hawaiian Pole Houses which are semi-modular. Redwood and native Koa woods are used throughout both homes.

Both homes were built by restaurateur Rob Thibaut and the style of the homes are reminiscent of his restaurants in Lahaina: Kimo’s, Leilani’s and Hula’s Grill.

In the roaring ‘80s, Thibaut was looking for a spot to build his dream homes, and he landed on this point next door to my family.

The neighbor John Severson, founder of Surfer magazine (and more importantly my dad!), had traveled the world searching for the perfect wave for Surfer and his films such as Pacific Vibrations and the original Big Wednesday… he finally found the perfect wave at Honolua Bay.

My dad found this idyllic point, Papaua Point, where he built his dream surf shack. The Surf Shack theme often shows up in his artwork and films.

In this gated community in Napili adjacent to Kapalua, here you have no homeowner’s association so you have freedom to create something amazing…just 10 homes on the street.

Evening entertainment…

Papaua Place is known to the old timers as “Magic Johnson’s street.” Magic owned the home a few doors South, overlooking the sandy cove. Papaua Place is near what has been voted one of the “best beaches in America,” world-championship golf courses, the five-star Montage resort and spa and the Ritz Carlton Kapalua, epic Honolua Bay. Need I say more? Well, yes, in fact!

Amazing, one of the most incredible properties in all of Hawaii and listed by super agent Anna Severson. The sunsets are off the charts and the lucky owner will still have privacy and yet be close to all the amenities. Merrimans restaurant in Napili is one of my all time favorites and just a few minutes away.
