You Have $10 Million and 10 Years To Live. What Would You Do?

A question in the Wall Street Journal asks: “You have $10 million and 10 years to live. What would you do?” If I had $10 million dollars (OK, after taxes), I’d buy a private home with an ocean playground as the front yard on the West coast of Maui like 43 Papaua Place!

I’d spend $7,995,000 plus $25,000 for a tricked-out road-safe golf cart and a some new ocean toys, then I’d do a few updates on the property and put the rest in treasury notes and enjoy the ride… Or with the rest I might buy a little oceanfront condo in Lahaina Shores for $450,000, see end of blog post.

We had the pleasure of staying on Papaua Point this spring, and although we live in Maui, it was truly living life in symphony and full color. I felt as happy as Kate Winslet on the bow of the Titanic with the sun on my face and a breeze in my hair, out on the farthest point, front row in Napili with a panoramic view. Indoor/outdoor living, sunsets into the ocean between Molokai and Lanai, large wrap patios, beautiful valleys of Molokai, and ever changing light and cloud formations. The moonlight on the ocean. The sound of the palms in the breeze. Gathering place downstairs with a pool table – open the doors out to the lawn – friends hanging out on the lawn chairs out front.

Dinners, ukulele strumming and coffee time on the amazing lanai… The locals prioritize living outside and enjoying the ocean, after all you have the best front yard in the world… Read more in my last blog entitled: Would you rather swim with turtles or mow the lawn?!

Jump off the rocks right into deep cool water – bubbly – exhilarating. Drift with the turtles. Swim laps across the bay. The kids can explore the tide pools and rocks and take adventures around the rocky coastline. Paddle out for a surf and look back at the islands. When you live on the ocean, you’re in the water every day, and nothing’s better than a warm outdoor shower and sauna after a dip in the ocean.

You can hear the ocean and palm trees from the primary bedrooms! Napili Plaza may be a bit pricey, but they have everything from fresh fish, wine to essentials, and is only a short drive away. It’s easy to go out for a meal or drinks at Cane and Canoe at the Montage or Taverna in Kapalua. Amazing world-class golf courses next door (this is where they hold the PGA tour). Honolua Bay with legendary surf conditions is 5 minutes away. I grew up in the islands and have tested many areas, and the Napili to Kapalua coastline on Maui is my favorite spot.

The area from Alaeloa to DT Fleming beach has the best weather with the combination of beaches and amenities. Cool, breezy, misty wind to your back. Warm in the sun, cool in the shade. The mana/spirit can be felt in this area as it was home to Hawaiian fishing cultures as well as Chief Piilani. The six bays along the Lower Honoapi’ilani road from South to North are: Honokowai, Honokeana, Honokahua, Honolua, Honokohau, and Hononana; Chief Piilani’s favorite bays. With $450,000 left over money, I might buy a little condo at Lahaina Shores rather than Treasury notes and rent it out! Click here for info.
