Let’s get real here. There are so many more fab things to do on Oahu than just 10, but we have to start somewhere, now don’t we?
Known as the “Gathering Place,” there is something for everyone to enjoy on Oahu, even that persnickety teenager who is attached by the thumbs to her smartphone! While many of the lists of things to do on Oahu that you’ll come across will vary greatly, these are our own personal favorites.
In honor of the selfless sacrifice of our troops globally. It’s a humbling experience. No words.

There’s something magical about walking up the side of the world’s most famous extinct volcano. A moderate hike to the top, it will take you about an hour up, and half that coming back down. The views from the top are utterly breathtaking. There are no accommodations at the summit, so make sure you remember to bring water, a good hat, sunscreen, and your camera. You wouldn’t want to miss that shot of a lifetime, now would ya?

The iconic beach of all beaches! Hawaiian for “sprouting waters,” this 2 mile long white sand beach is known for its turquoise waters, great surfing, and even better bikini watching. Arrive early and stake your spot lest you be eaten by the people watchers.

She may be a steep walk down in and back, but you can cheat and take the shuttle. Renowned for its excellent snorkeling, marine wildlife, and living coral. Swim with the turtles and laze your day away on the gorgeous palm-lined beach.
Hanauma Bay – known for its excellent snorkeling, marine wildlife, and living coral
You simply must luau. It’s a state requirement for all visitors, at least once. Not really, but it should be! Even though the getting there can seem like a bit of a cattle call if you are going on a luau bus, the end result is well worth it. Exotic beauties and fire dancers, songs, and comedy? The music will move you, the dancing is fantastic, the reverie is awesome if you happen to chance on a great Master of Ceremonies, and the food is always good. Try the poi, it’s not half bad!
You simply must luau!
6. North Shore
The north shore of Oahu has a vibe entirely its own. Away from the madness that is Waikiki, it’s laid back, country, and just what the doctor ordered. Old Haleiwa town, Waimea Bay for swimming, Bonzai Pipeline at Sunset Beach, unreal grinds at the shrimp trucks, and a fantastic hike at Kaena Point out to the Albatross Sanctuary. If you do the hike, make sure to take a peek at the little inlet just below the point on the right. I’m betting you’ll spot a monk seal or two.
Just what the doctor ordered!
A must for those who seek to discover and understand 6 of the different cultures that Polynesia embodies. It’s as authentic as they come. It’s a lengthy drive to get there, but you won’t be sorry. On the way, you’ll pass Chinaman’s Hat and some amazing beach views. The village experience is not to be missed. Plan an entire day. Learn a haka.

March on by those ABC stores and get thee to the SWAP! This is where you will find the best souvenirs, Hawaiiana Tchotchkes, and flat out great steals and deals. Also where University of Hawaii Warrior football happens. Be there or be square, Brah!

Swim with dolphins and sea lions, feed the sea turtles (only here, please!), dive with the rays, check out the shark tank…lots to see and do here! Nice large park with reefs, lagoons, and pools. Plan a day. Feed a fish.

10. Eat the Street
A happening in trendy Kaka’ako (think Ala Moana) the last Friday of every month that brings in over 40 plate lunch trucks offering the most diverse food you’ve ever salivated after! With such a melting pot of cultures, you know this is the place to bring a healthy appetite for some ono grinds. Don’t be shy! Indulge! Oh baby!
Don’t be afraid to indulge!
So…that sadly brings us to the end of this list, but surely not the bottom of everything that is Oahutastic. Maybe we should have made this a top twenty! More goodies to come. Promise.
