Princeville’s Inside Scoop – Dining, Beaches, and More

Here is the inside scoop on Princeville‘s latest and greatest…

Dining

Piazza – Modern Italian cuisine in a lively setting located in the Princeville shopping center. Lunch is served during the weekdays, dinner served every night.

Happy Talk – Covered open-air seating that offers live music nightly with incredible views of Hanalei Bay. Great selection of cocktails and cold beers.

Kauai Grill – Fine dining in an elegant yet comfortable hideaway at St. Regis above Hanalei Bay.

Sandwich Island Deli – Specialty gourmet sandwiches made to order on organic bread and with local produce and quality meats and cheeses.

Princeville Wine Market – Super knowledgeable with a large selection of fine wines, craft beers, and specialty liquors. Also offer cheese, chocolates, and meats.

Beaches

Pu’a Poa Beach – Located below the St. Regis Hotel and Hanalei Bay Resort, this beach boasts incredible views of Hanalei Bay and Bali Hai. Because it is lined with a reef, this long narrow beach is great for snorkeling, with a few sandy pockets for swimming. Rentals of stand-up paddleboards and kayaks are also available for rent through the St. Regis pool staff. During extreme low tides in the summer months, you can even cross the river to Hanalei Pier. During the winter when the surf is big, this is a popular beach for surfers to paddle out at.

Hideaways – Hideaways is a crescent-shaped sandy shore with beautiful turquoise waters, frequent visiting turtles, and deep reefs for snorkeling. The best time to visit this beach is in the afternoon as in the morning the sun is still behind the ridge. This beach is more ideal in the summertime as the high surf can make the waters rough. We recommend packing light when visiting here…just a towel, sunscreen, water, and snorkel gear. The trail is steep and can be slippery when wet, therefore we suggest wearing proper footwear.

Sea Lodge Beach – Sea Lodge offers plenty of sand and shade and is protected by an inner reef, which makes it ideal for snorkeling and not so great for swimming. This means that high tide is the best time to visit here, so be sure to check a tide chart. Due to limited parking, this beach remains pretty secluded, even sometimes deserted, which is always a plus in my book!

Wyllie Beach – Located in the Anini Beach Park area, Wyllie Beach is a small beach on the far west end. It is secluded and shady and the water is calm and clear (except, of course, when it is raining). If the channel is not deep, you can easily cross and walk the stretch of Anini beach for 1.5 miles. This area is great during high surf since it is protected by a very large reef that prevents the surf from reaching the shoreline.

Activities

Golf – Ranked in the top 100 Greatest Public Golf Courses in America and #3 in the state of Hawaii by Golf Week, the championship Makai Course at Princeville offers some of the most breathtaking ocean and mountain views in all of Hawaii. Designed by Robert Trent Jones Jr., this 18 hole course offers a golf shop, clubhouse with dining, rental clubs and carts, and a driving range.

Tennis – Both the Makai Tennis Club and the Hanalei Bay Resort offer tennis programs open to the public. Court rentals, private lessons, clinics, and junior programs are all available at both locations. Memberships are recommended for better rates but drop-ins are gladly accommodated.

Walk/Jog/Bike Path – Spanning 2.1 miles from Princeville Shopping Center to the St. Regis, is a pleasant path running along Ka Haku Road. Frequented all day long with activity, the path is a great way to get in a workout or a sunset stroll. All forms of non-motorized transportation are welcome on the path, just remember that those on foot always have the right of way.
