Ono Grinds at the Plate Lunch Marketplace in Kahului, Maui

You know how you can never think of a place to get a meal in Kahului? Search no further! Da Plate Lunch Marketplace…

I have done extensive research for you and am happy to say: Da food trucks across from the Costco gas station is da kine! (Note to my accountant: I told you! All of my meal receipts I turned in are strictly work related).

Support local vendors and eat fresh products from the island… Food trucks are hip and trendy and that’s because they are so much fun!  Here there are a few different food trucks to chose from…With shady spots to eat lunch. Very convenient location near Kanaha beach park with “plenny parking” li’dat.

After you come in from an epic surf-kiting-windsurfing-foiling session on the North Shore or the usual “Costco Run” or shopping session just head straight to the Kiawe Grill! So close to the airport you can stop there before or after your long flight and get some “ono grinds.” Robbie Kaplan also makes a fantastic Maui Cattle Company Beef burger at the Kiawe Wood Fire Grill.

The Kiawe Wood Fire grill uses local products…

The Kimchi fries are my favorite — served with spicy mayo!

After an epic surf session, I dream about their super fresh fish burger and local greens — Onolishious. The buns are fresh here too — no pun intended.

Seriously grilled over a Kiawe wood fire…

To give you an idea of how fresh the fish is…

Dat’s my friend Robbie Kaplan born and raised on Maui and a Hawaii Life client at his food truck, the Kiawe Wood Fire Grill. You can see he has super fresh local Mahi-Mahi. If you’re not too hungry, you can get just one Mahi but not always on the menu “cause Robbie no use frozen kine.” Check him out on Instagram or their website.

Robby is a culinary trained chef and has worked at top restaurants like Merrimans and the Wailea Hotel.

Shady spot with picnic tables where you can grind out!

…Freckles ordered some fresh Ahi and is patiently waiting!

Contact me if you’d like a tour of the food trucks or to visit properties on the North Shore of Maui. I’m always looking for a reason to write off a meal at the Kiawe Wood Fire Grill!

Directions:  Across the street from the Costco Gas Station in Kahului. Open for lunch Monday-Friday usually 10-4 sometimes later. You know it Maui…Hawaiian time.

Nicely written article, braddah Miguel. We will definitely try out the Kiawe grill next time we’re in town. Never know where to get a healthy meal in Kahului. I will probably get the single Mahi – hilarious! How do you think up this stuff? Aloha
