Maui Weekend Events – February 9

Aloha friends! This weekend on Maui is about the Super Bowl and celebrating the Chinese New Year. Check out my blog from last year on where to watch the Super Bowl. The details will have changed but the links will be good to pick up this year’s info. The Maui Ocean Center is hosting an astronomical movie screening and stargazing. 2nd Saturday at the South Maui Gardens features a New Year celebration. Maui Mall Village and Wailea Healing Center also offer celebrations to ring in year of the dragon.

Chinese New Year

Maui Mall Village presents Maui Chinese New Year Festival, The Day of the Dragon. Celebrate year of the dragon this Saturday from 9:00 am – 2:00 pm. There will be lots of family friendly cultural experiences and activities. Highlights include lion dance and blessings, keiki Chinese costume contest and dragon parade. Wailea Healing Center is honoring the lunar new year this Saturday from 2:00 – 4:00 pm. Celebrate with goodies, fortunes and free mini acupuncture sessions with Debrah Santi.

South Maui Gardens 2nd Saturday

South Maui Gardens – Hidden Oasis of Kihei hosts a community party every Second Saturday of the month. This month features a Traditional Lunar New Year celebration. Head down for cultural performances and to feed the dragon. This event features 10+ local favorite food trucks. A Night Market featuring local Maui artisans and vendors will be on display this weekend as well. This is a free event.

Astronomy Movie Screening and Ohana Kilo Hoku Stargazing

Maui Ocean Center partners with The National Solar Observatory to host a free astronomy movie screening of Space, Hope, and Charity and an outdoor ʻOhana Kilo Hōkū stargazing session this Saturday. There will be two movie screenings at 5:30 pm and 7:20 pm. Space is limited, and tickets do not guarantee entry. Entry will be first-come, first-served. Outdoor stargazing will be open. Stargazing will be held from sundown to 9:00 pm. Aquarium exhibits will not be open during this event.

Classic Movie Series at the Historic I’ao Theater

Maui OnStage presents the 2024 Classic Movie Series. February’s feature is Casablanca. Showtime is 3:00 and doors open at 2:30 pm. What better place to enjoy the classics than the 96-year-old I’ao Theater!
