Using the Laws of the Aloha Spirit, the Law of Attraction, and the Law of Giving and Receiving When Selling Hawaii Real Estate

In utilizing the Law of Attraction to help people’s ultimate dreams come through, I offer to show my clients the movie The Secret (original version with Abraham-Hicks)…based on the idea that “what you think about comes to you.” As a part of this law, we will utilize the Law of Giving and Receiving as explained in the book by Deepak Chopra called The Seven Spiritual Laws of Success.
How I learned the Law of Giving and Receiving:
Growing up near Kaneohe Bay on Oahu, I attended Castle High School on the Windward side, where we had a huge diversity of cultures which made it really fun growing up…I loved meeting new people, and introducing them to other friends who had similar interests.
We lived near Coconut Island in Kaneohe…where the TV series Gilligan’s Island was filmed
Anyway, I had many friends that I hung out with at different times, and there was one friend I will never forget…her name was Jennifer. Jennifer was a pretty Asian-Filipino mix of ancestry, and she taught me this law of giving and receiving when she took me along to visit her aunty who lived in Pearl City one day.
Before we went up to her aunty’s house, she told me she was going to buy her aunty a pie at Anna Miller’s. I asked, “Is it a special occasion?” She said, “No, I was taught never to visit someone empty-handed…bring something as a gift to the house to bless them.” I loved her philosophy and adopted it as my own.
Who would be thankful when a guest comes to visit and brings you a delicious gift like this? Most people who receive something unexpectedly will ask, “And what can I do for you?!” in an attempt to reciprocate this beautiful gesture of Aloha.
When buying real estate in Hawaii, if you use this same philosophy of giving before you receive anything, you will have a much easier time “integrating” into the business culture of Hawaii, which can be very dependent on the quality of relationships you keep.
A gift can be a flower, a kind word, a prayer, or a gesture of warmth given in respect to the person or place it is given
One of the first things I tell my clients who are planning to build a home in Hawaii, is that whenever you need something from any of the County or State offices, you may consider going in there with a disposition of respect and humility to the person helping you.
If you want them to remember you well, leave a box of chocolates, or a batch of your favorite cookies…something they can eat and share with everyone else. It’s a small gesture for the amount of gratitude and continued service that you will receive in return.
Picking a contractor that uses the Law of Giving in their business can make the difference in a quality build on-time, with minimal hangups. The established contractor will have a trusted crew of sub-contractor “friends” in the business, and in the State and County Departments who may jump hoops to service to the builder, or vendor you choose.
The law also works in the opposite situation as well. If you upset any of those County or State workers, they will remember you and you might have to make a few extra trips to get your building permitted, or an inspector to come out to your property, so you can sell it.
I worked with a developer who was building a subdivision near the airport and his sister, who was the Broker (who didn’t know this law), was selling the homes and had disregarded a customer who wanted to buy a house in their new neighborhood.
This customer just happened to be the State Inspector for the development, and because of that, the inspections for the whole development were postponed at least 1-3 months because of the way the Broker treated the inspector. There will be no words shared when these things happen…and I would be quick to send chocolates and flowers to the department to help make up for any ill feelings that may have been misinterpreted.
This law also works when you move into a new neighborhood and need your neighbor’s assistance. The first thing you want to do when you first move to the neighborhood, is to take a box of chocolates, or a cold beverage to share with your neighbors…making friends with your neighbors will insure a better living experience while residing there.
When you need a tree trimmed that’s blocking your view, take a bottle of wine, or a favorite beverage to the neighbor who owns the tree, and after giving the beverage, ask if you can trim their tree…chances are they will probably say “yes” with a big smile! Sharing is caring, and this natural Law of Giving is prevalent in many successful businesses and neighborhoods…
Managing with Aloha by Rosa Say…a recommended book for anyone wanting to do business in Hawaii
A great book that can help you understand this law is in the book by Rosa Say called Managing with Aloha. This book teaches these same universal laws as well as the Law of the Aloha Spirit, and shows how Rosa integrated these teachings into her career as the Director of Operations at Four Seasons Hualalai Resort. I worked with Rosa while there, and was able to see and experience these laws in action as her departments had very strong “team” concepts along with putting the guests needs first.
