Ka Makana at Hoakalei Single Family Homes

The development of Oahu’s west side has been a slow process over the past 25 years, and since it has been gradual, I sometimes forget what it was back when I was a kid and how far it has come. What is now Kapolei, Ka Makana, and Oceanpointe used to be sugar cane fields.

Now, those fields are suburban neighborhoods with shopping malls, theaters, and schools scattered throughout. The thing I like about how this area was developed is the fact that the neighborhoods are laid out nicely with modern conveniences all nearby. There are grocery stores and shopping centers like Target, Home Depot—and the American staple—Starbucks.

Ka Makana at Hoakalei

This neighborhood is one of the few areas on Oahu where homes are built with central A/C. Since most of the island was development from the 60’s to the 70’s, a large majority of homes do not have A/C. The best thing is the affordability of new homes in comparison to the rest of the island. You can get a brand-new, 3-bedroom/2-bathroom single family home (with garage) with upgraded appliances, a yard, and central A/C for the same price as a 2-bedroom condo in a highrise built in the 1970’s in downtown Honolulu.
