Join Us for Shapes of the North Shore in Haleiwa — Saturday, Feb. 8th, 3 to 8 p.m.
Join our Hawaii Life Haleiwa team this Saturday, February 8th for Shapes of the North Shore, a unique art showcase that’s part of the Haleiwa Art Walk, a monthly event that happens on the second Saturday of each month in Haleiwa, on O‘ahu.
About Shapes of the North Shore
Our Haleiwa office will present a unique collection of surfboards created by some of the North Shore’s most iconic and renowned shapers, as well as some of the more underground talents in the field. Meet the talented artists who shaped them and learn about their rides and journeys around the world at this artists’ showcase.
The collection was curated by our Haleiwa team to share our stoke for the North Shore and our way of life, and to pay tribute to the many talented shapers who make the North Shore home, from Mokulēʻia to Lāʻie and Kahalu‘u.
Shaping As An Art Form
Like a sculptor or carver with a piece of clay, wood or stone, a board shaper begins with a shapeless block of foam or wood, and lovingly crafts a well-balanced speed machine designed for pure joy. We wish to recognize shaping as an art form and one of the purest forms of craftsmanship, as each board is designed with considerations of form, function and aesthetic beauty.
From cutting and sanding the rails to glassing, shaping a board is an intense labor of love. Each handcrafted board is as unique as a snowflake, from the entry to the tail rocker, from the rails to the bottom contours. Some of the shapers will be at the event, so come to our Hawaii Life Haleiwa office to learn about their skill and their love for the craft of shaping.
