Getting to Know Keauhou on the Big Island – Walking the Town

I start walking in Keauhou between 7 and 8 a.m. daily.

The direction I head most often is south—toward the end of Alii Drive. It seems to be a bit quieter. Heading south brings you to the intersection of Alii Drive and King Kamehameha III Road. At this point, I either continue south on Alii Drive, or I head west toward Keauhou Bay. Keauhou Bay got the nod today and, of course, I see so many familiar faces. Morning greetings and smiles are delivered, and all of us keep on walking.

You are immediately introduced to the ocean golf course of the Kona Country Club, as you walk directly over one of the golf cart paths. This course weaves its way through most of Keauhou and condos and homes are built along the course throughout. On this route, I first encounter Keauhou Resort and Keauhou Palena. Both complexes sit on the course. They are very different in style, but similar in size, location, price, view, and amenities. As I approach the end of the road, I pass over the course again and I head toward Keauhou Bay.

But before I continue on, for anyone interested in condos or homes in this area, there seems to be something that attract most folks. As well as the 2 condo complexes mentioned, there is also a “high rise” complex with an elevator, a fantastic complex that sits right on the course and ocean, and there are a few small subdivisions nestled in this quaint area that also sits on the course or the ocean.

The price range of condos in this area can start at $149,000 and reach into the high $800,000’s, and the homes fall into the same situation with price ranges starting at $425,000, and rising to one that is currently listed at $11,000,000. Location—Location—Location!!

And again, the walking is safe in this area. This particular stretch is rather flat with a few slight declines. Walking shoes are recommended, and the vegetation is beautiful. The Bougainvillea that line this road are quite outstanding. There is also a huge boat storing yard on this road and it is packed. Many folks who have water sport businesses at the bay keep their boats here. Pretty easy access.

I always watch the water, so I don’t miss this!! INCREDIBLE!

I can see the ocean in most areas as I walk, and during the winter the above sight is something that I am still amazed by. Entering the bay will be my next adventure, and so much happens here.

Until later—enjoy.
