Free Classes For First Time Hawaii Home Owners

I just finished buying my first home, and boy did I had a lot of questions. Luckily for me, I had a broker and multiiple real estate agents working at HawaiiLife.com to help me through the process. Unfortunately, most of Hawaii’s first time home buyers don’t have this luxury, but I’m glad to report that there is somebody out there that can help with the sometimes confusing process of home ownership.

I found the Hawaii HomeOwnership Center by chance. They are a non-profit organization that whose mission is to,

“(P)rovide education, information and support to create successful first-time homeowners in Hawai‘i. By addressing barriers and increasing rates of home ownership, the HomeOwnership Center aims to build stronger families and communities throughout the state…”

Hawaii HomeOwnership Center offers a one hour orientation that is free to the public (even if you’ve purchased a home before). If you wish to continue with their classes, counseling and other services, there is a $100 one time fee (of which $50 is refunded to you when you become a homeowner). I recommend taking a look at their steps to homeownership for an overview of what the process entails.

Buying a home in Hawaii can be an overwhelming experience, but the Hawaii HomeOwnership Center looks to ease the process. I’ll be meeting with a representative from the center on my upcoming trip to Honolulu in early May. I’ll report back with more information.
