Kailua Beach : A Beautiful Dog-Friendly Beach on Oahu

Dog-Friendly Kailua Beach

Kailua, my home town…can’t wait to walk the beach. I’m going home tomorrow and will be strolling the sands every day, maybe even twice a day. No matter where you go, there is no beach like Kailua Beach. The white sand expanse grows and contracts with the waves, the tides, the surges and swells, but there’s always more than enough room to walk the dogs and greet my fellow strollers. Those with dogs know the other dogs; we know the dog’s names, but not always the owner’s name.

My mother is the doggie treat lady…if the dogs sit nicely on command they get treats. All the beach dogs wag their tails and put on their best behavior as the spot her coming. It’s a cool social scene, dogs are always playful with no fights and the humans, with them or not, are always friendly and pretty happy…who can be any other way walking this beautiful beach; breezes style your hair, the ocean beckons to be dipped in, or wind sailed or surfed or glided?

We will head to Kalapawai for breakfast, not the Kalapawai Store of my youth, but a glorified rebirth as a coffee shop/deli/wine store/gift store, delicious treats for the weary as we eat outside on their picnic tables where the dogs are welcomed with a bottomless water bowl.

One of the Finest Residential Offerings Anywhere in Hawaii

On the way, we pass my favorite home for sale; one of the largest lots along Kailua Beach at 1.49 acres (MLS# 251325) and has one of the newest and largest homes beach side Kailua. It was such an honor to have been invited to visit twice; once as it was under construction and again when it was complete. What a property!!

The plantation style design is very open in the way the spaces flow inside and out, the way the air and light fill high ceilings, and the finishes are top quality. The main home is set so that there is a large grassy yard between it and the beach. The ocean can be seen from everywhere.

On the other side, the house opens to a tropical landscape where a waterfall cascades into the pool overlooked by an inviting Cabana. Five bedrooms and five bathrooms in over 11,000 square feet accommodate extended family and friends with lots of room for entertaining. If you find you need more space for guests, the 3-bedroom guest home waits for its rooms to be filled. Its site near the gated entrance of the property offers privacy to all. The address is 210 N. Kalaheo.

I’m here for a while. If this calls to you, call me and we’ll have a look! Then we can mosey over to Buzz’s to talk and enjoy the ambiance of Kailua – in the most Kailua of all spots – Buzz’s. More about that later…see you soon.

A hui hou!

Does she make exceptions for cute dogs who are useless when it comes to sitting on command? My boy Beauford will have to turn on the charm when he meets her. If she is half as fun as you I know we are going to love her. Already know I love the beach. And the house sounds amazing.
