2013 Real Estate Buying Season Begins in North Hawaii

‘Tis the time of year when parents all over the world start to evaluate whether where they are living is right for their family. Even though cultural norms can be vastly different from one place around the world to another, many consistencies in what parents desire of their hometown exist, such as: safe streets, low crime, temperate climate, natural beauty, friendly residents, and enjoyable ways to spend time.

Historic Big Island Town of Waimea Meets Family Friendly Criteria

Waimea (a.k.a. “Kamuela”) on the Big Island of Hawaii meets the above criteria and more. Waimea is a small town (approx. 12,000 full-time residents) and maintains a small town feel. Waimea’s ranching (Parker Ranch), paniolo (Hawaiian cowboy), and performing arts (Richard Smart) history is woven into the fabric of everyday life through cultural celebrations and main street decor.

Nestled at the base of the Kohala Mountains, Waimea has some of the most beautiful aesthetics in the world. Bold views of Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai volcanoes are visible from many residences.

The “green side” (from approx. the middle of town East) is lush and tropical. Cows and horses can be seen from the main road strolling through rolling green pastures. The “dry side” (from approx. the middle of town West) boasts some of the most magnificent real estate in the world – ocean views, backyard streams, acreage…

A friend of mine describes life in Waimea as “living 15 minutes from Hawaii,” in that the Kohala Coast’s world-class beaches, resorts, and shops are located a short drive down the hill. Additionally, North Hawaii streets are safe and it is common to see kids playing outside.

Nice Blog! What a beautiful morning in Waimea. I enjoyed running on the new community path along the stream while my daughter was in her application interview for HPA! I look forward to spending more time up there.
