Firsthand Home Buying Experience in Puako From a Hawaii Realtor

As a Realtor, I am fortunate enough to be exposed to many homes and areas that most people don’t see on a daily basis. I was so blessed to find Puako in 2007 while on a Broker Tour of homes. At that moment, I knew I had found my future home and made it my personal intention to live here…I say “here” because that is exactly what happened 3 months later!

Buying Property in Puako

It all began with a small pupu (Hawaiian word for hors d’oeuvres) party I planned so we could watch the new movie, “The Secret.” After we watched the movie, my friend, Ben, said he had made a mistake and shown his wife, Sue, Puako…now she wanted to live there! I said I did, too, so let’s make an intention that we would!

Seriously, the next week was another Broker Tour and I saw a sign on a property that was on the mauka (mountain) side of the road…it was not open for the tour, so I called the agent to get an appointment to see it as soon as possible.

I ran through the two houses being offered on a CPR lot (Condominium Provision Regime)…meaning the ownership could be held separately. I called Ben and told him I had found our Puako homes. I wrote an offer for each of us and we got the deal, just by moments, as another offer came in right after ours was accepted!

It is now 2013 and I just bought another mauka home in Puako with my partner in life, Johnny, that we plan to remodel and live in for the rest of our happy, blessed lives!
