Buying a Fixer Upper with Your VA Loan Benefits (VA Renovation Loans)

We’ve all heard the phrase,” location, location, location.” What does that really mean? Simply stated, it refers to the fact that when considering a home, the location is the one thing that can’t be changed. The house may be really ugly, but if it’s in a great neighborhood with a killer view…the house situation is usually something that can be remedied, but not the location.

Here’s more good news. Many people turn and run when they look at a house that’s dirty, stinky, ugly, or outdated. They can’t see past an old filthy carpet, a neon lime green room, an ’80s kitchen, or a strange wall with wires hanging in the middle of nowhere.

If you’re one of the imaginative few that can look past what you’re seeing, feeling, or smelling…you might consider using your VA benefit for a VA Renovation Loan and create the home of your dreams.

As with any renovation, taking on a project like this won’t just take imagination. It’s work. There is a myriad of things that would need to be done, but in the end, it might be worth your while.

Here’s where the VA Renovation Loan Program comes in. It can be used for such things as:

  • Updating the electrical, HVAC, and plumbing
  • Elimination of health and safety hazards such as lead-based paint and mold
  • Upgrading the kitchen or bathroom
  • Adding square footage
  • Repairing or replacing a deck
  • Installing or repairing a swimming pool
  • Aesthetics such as paint, siding, and landscaping
  • And so much more!

Whatever is your fancy, the VA Renovation Loan is a valuable benefit available to those of us who served our country. As a fellow veteran, I will be happy to assist you in your search for the perfect home in the perfect location. Please give me a call.
