Amenities at Mauna Kea and Other Kohala Resorts

I was just at the Mauna Kea for a tennis lesson and decided to enjoy the moment, and take in the beauty of the beach at Kauna’oa.

Happy vacationers at the Hau Tree restaurant’s bar at Mauna Kea Beach Hotel

Since one of the pleasures of living is Hawaii is being able to eat/drink in the tropical beach side restaurants, a creamy smoothie at the bar at the Hau Tree sounded like a perfect fit!

The “atmosphere,” as much as the taste, makes anything at the Hau Tree such a treat! Why are the smoothies so good though? You can select three of seven different fruit flavors, including some local fruits like lilikoi. For creaminess, be sure to include banana. For me, sipping one of these, (or a “Frederico”—the signature Hau Tree cocktail), is like an instant mini-vacation. Have one while you’re soaking in some sun, or lounging in the shade with your toes in the sand.

Speaking of amenities, how about these at Kauna’oa…no, not the beach, the development

Another favorite place to hang out by the beach for food and drinks is “Napua” at the Mauna Lani Beach Club. The adjacent beach, Makaiwa Bay, is one of the best for snorkeling on the Kohala Coast.

The Beach Club is open exclusively to Mauna Lani Bay Resort residents,** BUT the latest scoop is that the gate is left open starting at 4 p.m., so anyone may come to dine! New management has broadened the menu; they also run Pakini Grill in Waimea. For lunch, you can walk in via the public access path from the historical park. I had the fresh fish special the other day and it was onolicious!

**If you’d like to be a Mauna Lani resident, consider the Villages at Mauna Lani. Below is a great deal on a 3 bed/3.5 bath stand-alone villa (MLS# 241995) for sale for $1.198M.

High-end furnishings add to the luxurious feel of living at Mauna Lani (MLS# 241995)

It’s similar to the one I closed April 4th for $1.45M, or consider a 2 bed/2 bath golf condo (MLS# 241253) on the ML South Course for sale at Mauna Lani for only $365K. There is something for every taste and price range at the Mauna Lani Resort!

Thanks, Annie! Don’t we love that Mauna Kea Beach and its tennis courts… Do you know of any properties at Mauna Kea or Mauna Lani with a private tennis court?

Aloha Catherine! YES! We do love that Mauna Kea Beach and its tennis courts! And the tennis pros aren’t so bad, either! lol:-) So, the closest thing I can think of to a “private” tennis court is the one at 49 Black Sand that all of the homeowners can use. It feels like a private court because it is a single court in a setting similar to a private yard. I racked my brain and can’t think of any others. Can you?? Did you know there is a private court in Waikoloa Village at the home at 68-1724 HULUKOA PL (TMK # 3-6-8-23-43)? I just ran across it recently when showing Bailey’s listing on the same street. Quite luxurious:-) Let’s crash??

Also, Catherine…At the Mauna Lani besides 40 Black Sand, there are the 10 courts at the Fairmont Orchid, and the 7 courts at The “Racquet Club”. I remember when I worked at the “Tennis Garden” at Mauna Lani Bay Hotel in the 1980’s. There were 10 courts there, but that area has been turned into a convention center since. Aloha…happy tennis:-)
