Ahualoa Estate Home – Scenic and Secluded

“What a peaceful and wonderful life the Ahualoa neighborhood has brought to my family.”

Kahili ginger fragrantly lures you to make Ahualoa your home (MLS# 237956)

Twenty years ago, I felt the magical pulse of the then rainy Hamakua region. My husband found Ahualoa by accident. Catching a ride from Hilo, he stopped in this tropical paradise laden with fragrant white and kahili gingers. He brought a huge one back to our anchorage in Kawaihae. Once aboard, the whole boat took on the kahili’s fragrance and the spell was cast.

Our Ahualoa spot required rubber boots, but was a gem. When we built it, in 1990, it rained three months straight until, of course, the day the roof was finally up. You couldn’t slog through the pasture without sinking at least six inches in mud. Today, after years of drought, the rubber boots are cracked and brittle. The overall rainfall is significantly less than even a decade ago.

The vibration of tiny Honokaa town is still a quick five minutes away, and just as quiet as years ago, when we took the kids in their footie jammies to the movies on weekends. The constant of restful peace, despite new influx, is a comforting reality.

Ahualoa in particular, in my opinion, is the best kept secret of Hawaii, often exposing itself in subtle ways with the great products emerging from it. We have such delicious industries as Hawaii Island Goat Dairy, organic coffee production, Richard’s Volcano Island Winter honey, and Mauna Kea Tea farm. Nowhere else do you see such a blend of diverse creative businesses, verdant ginger-laden streams, pasture, and agriculture.

If you have friends who want to purchase a homestead, I can recommend this estate home on 5.39 wooded acres for $799,500. A 3 bed/3 bath home (immaculate, large rooms, open kitchen, fireplace) with approximately 3,018 sq. ft. of living area. You can always reach me at 808-987-8294. Aloha!
