Kauai's 3rd Annual Marathon in Sunny Poipu

“Come for the race, stay for the paradise,” says the Office Kauai Marathon homepage.

As I write this blog, we are 160 days, 12 hours, and 29 minutes away from Kauai’s third annual Marathon and Half Marathon to be held in Poipu, Kauai on September 4, 2011.

On January 3, 2011, I blogged about the Kauai Marathon and encouraged beginning runners to try the U.S. Navy’s Beginning Running Program that is designed to turn almost anyone into someone that can run at least two miles comfortably (see my blog, How To Prepare for Kauai’s 3rd Annual Marathon). From this beginning, you can decide how far you want to go from there!

Almost three months have passed, and for those of you that embarked on a 2011 goal of running Kauai’s Marathon, hurray for you. For the late starters, guess what, there is still time to get ready to run a Marathon here on September 4, but don’t postpone getting started as the longer you train for this the more comfortable you will be on race day.

This will be another great event as Dean Kamazes will be returning for the third year as official host of the 2011 event. Dean is known as the Ultra Marathon Man, who ran 50 marathons in 50 states in 50 days, ending with the NYC marathon!

Dean Kamazes, Michael Wardian 2010 winner (2.30.52), and Bart Yasso

As you might expect, running a Marathon is a tremendous personal achievement. Preparing for and running a marathon is a great equalizer as everyone that completes one has to do it the same way—by putting in the hard work and time. No one else can do this for you—only YOU can do it! As the Nike trademark states, “Just Do It.”

The deadline for early registration ends on March 31, 2011, so there are just a couple more days to take advantage of these discounts. This year’s event will include both a full marathon, a half marathon, and a newly added 4 person marathon relay. Until August 1, two hotels in Poipu are offering special rates while rooms are still available. Full details and information about this event can be viewed at the official website.

If you will be attending this Marathon, or just planning a visit to Kauai and want to know or learn more about properties in Poipu, or surrounding areas on Kauai, feel free to contact either me or my sister, Ilona Coffey (808)-635-1495. We are both agents with Hawaii Life Real Estate and specialize in lovely properties on Kauai’s south shore. One bedroom, one bathroom oceanfront unit (MLS# 243880) at Kuhio Shores. Walk out the door and you are at the best snorkeling beach in Poipu. Offered at $475K.
