1717 Ala Wai Condos – History and Information
1717 Ala Wai (built in 1970) is at the far Ewa – West – end of Waikiki and sits on a section of land along with three other buildings that was owned by a family of Hawaiian ancestry who retained ownership and leased the land for development of condos in the late 60’s and early 70’s.

Original and subsequent owners of these condos in the buildings that also included Waipuna, Villa On Eaton Square, and Marina Towers were only allowed to own the structure of their residence and were required to pay lease rent on the land underneath their buildings. In the late 80’s the land under all those buildings was offered for sale to the condo owners and the majority of those owners now own their land.
It is a very nice area of Waikiki that borders the Ala Wai Canal and is conveniently located proximate to Ala Wai Yacht Harbor, Waikiki Yacht Club, Ala Moana Beach Park and Ala Moana Shopping Center.
