What is the Wanderlust Event on Oahu’s North Shore?

Many of you might be wondering, “What the heck is Wanderlust?” Or maybe you’ve already caught onto the buzz about it and are venturing out to participate. I think this Wanderlust Oahu festival is a great example of the lifestyle that the North Shore community exudes. It’s approaching this month: Feb. 26th – Mar. 1st at Turtle Bay Resort.

Oahu’s beautiful North Shore

My take on it is finding mind/body/soul connections, all while incorporating the environment of Hawai’i’s mountains and ocean. Many of us live busy and way too connected lives. Devices, sitting (in the car, at the office, on the couch), and work soaks up many of our days, which is in turn bad for the body – physically and mentally. Wanderlust festival invites you to get comfortable here, relax, and find what works for you. The North Shore is a perfect place for this to happen.

Yeah, sure, yoga can seem intimidating or maybe stereotypical, but really the Wanderlust festival shows you how to learn and grow. From moving your body to quieting your mind, and having fun while connecting with others too, it’s all about you. Making each movement your own. By no means am I a yogi, or do I practice it religiously, but sometimes, I do try. I prefer action sports, like surfing, crossfit, or motocross, but as I get older my body knows that I need be nicer to it, like eat more mindfully and stretch!

I like the phrase I’ve heard “finding ease within effort,” and this is when it changes for me – release my neck and slide my shoulders down, untense my face, or maybe take that breath that I didn’t realize I was holding…and yeah, “ease” is not exactly what I’d call it because all those muscles are still very busy. It’s more a place of stability, almost peace — “the calm within the chaos.”

Who Should Attend?

Wanderlust is a great place to start disconnecting and actually live joyfully, like so many people already do here on O’ahu’s North Shore. It is not just yoga and it is for a wide range of ages, genders, shapes, and sizes. You can surf, SUP yoga, hike in the jungles, ride horseback, soak in the live music and renown speakers, meditate, eat delicious food, or do yoga. If you’re really ambitious, do it all! But try and lessen the digital realm.

The whole event silently touches on the overuse of digital media and its negative effect on attention span, memory, and communication skills by showing you many other options. If you’ve ever bounced between your laptop, the television, and your smart phone, this may be a retreat for you. Although it can be difficult to break this “e-diction.”
