Kamakoa Nui Skate Park Celebrates Grand Opening in Waikoloa Village

Waikoloa has been long overdue for a skate park, but since last Sunday, skateboarders have an official place to roll! The grand opening of the new Kamakoa Nui Skate Park took place on Sunday, September 29th, 2013 and numerous residents attended this long-awaited event.

Funds were raised for the skate park’s second phase, hoping to enlarge the skating area and put some landscaping in. The Kamakoa Nui Skate Park Grand Opening featured:

  • Silent auction
  • Food
  • Music
  • Hip-hop performance
  • Shave ice
  • Fun activities

After a lengthy process (construction of phase one started last February), keiki and young adults finally had the opportunity to skate on phase one. This phase consists of a 7,700 sq.ft. skating area, best suited for beginners and intermediate skateboarders.

Waikoloa Village Community Skate Park

With the opening of the skate park, Waikoloa has shown a strong sense of community, focusing on youth activities and after-school programs. Instead of using public and commercial property, it lets the skateboarders practice slides or land kick-flips at the new Kamakoa Nui Skate Park – as long as they don’t forget to put their helmets on!

Catherine! The Park is so cool, large and so much to offer nearby residents. It seems that not everyone knows about the park yet, so it will be great when it gets fully utilized! Mahalo for being so knowledgeable and supportive!
