The Power of Community: Join us in Fundraising For Our Volunteer Firefighters

As friends and community members, I invite you to please consider joining me as we Kākoʻo manawaleʻai kinai ahi (Support our Volunteer Firefighters)!

Saturday, January 6, 2024, Kohala Ranch in collaboration with The Daniel Sayre Memorial Foundation is hosting a fundraiser at Kohala Ranch’s Polo Field from 11:30 am-3:30 pm.

This event will feature live music, food, and silent auction items as well as allow you to meet and interact with the firefighters and their equipment.

In their informational letter to the community, Event Organizers shared, “A14VFD has 1 engine and 1 tanker. The fire engine is over 45 years old, and the current 1984 tanker is on its last legs. Both are in constant need of repairs due to wear and tear accumulated over the years. The recent fires that raged the Kohala Region are forever seared in our minds. We are grateful to the A14VFD team of 11 first responders and their collaboration with other VFDs throughout the island including Mauna Kea, Waiki’i, Puakō, Waikoloa, Kapa’a to name a few. Our A14VFD first responders are a dedicated crew, and we honor their service and commitment; however, their equipment is falling apart from years of wear and tear from serving the Ranch and neighboring communities.

The fundraising goal to purchase the new vehicle is $500,000. I’m delighted to share, the fund has been blessed to have already started gaining traction in the Community.

Mahalo Nui Loa to those who have already pledged their support!

  • $50K matching pledge from Tom & Claire Leonardi
  • $10K from Cathleen & Peter Schwartz
  • $20K from Bob Acree
  • $10K from Bart & Beth Faber

With their gracious offers combined with your generous monetary and silent auction donations, our firefighters will be able to purchase this much-needed equipment.
