Sustainable Living on Maui’s North Shore (And it’s ADA Approved!)

You can have it all here in Huelo, Haiku, Maui — a home where you can age in place, and a farm to provide healthy food.

A 2 bedroom cottage with ADA features

51 W. Waipio is a unique country property of 2.33 acres and a lot going on. There’s a sweet single level cottage with no steps, and ADA modifications to make it comfortable for those in wheelchairs. The grounds have been professionally planned for sustainability, with orchards, gardens, and ponds that all intermingle to produce lots of food and bright flowers. Easy access to the gardens by way of paved pathways, makes for enjoyable time spent in nature. Chickens and ducks love it here too!

You can live in the 2 bedroom cottage while building the main house on the hilltop with great ocean views. The existing septic system can accommodate another 3 bedroom house, and the 2-tank catchment water supply is adequate for another household too. This building site is cleared and mostly level, so there would be no delay in getting started. Other buildings on site include a small yoga shala, a farm stand, and a learning center.

A sandy beach and a fish pond

It’s always a pleasure to explore the wonderful gardens, and you’ll find so many great things like breadfruit, various citrus trees, papayas, bananas, dragon fruit, avocados, star fruit, pineapple, lemongrass, vetiver grass, hibiscus, strawberries, and so much more! The big pond is shaded with a pergola draped with jade vines and lilikoi vines.  Tilapia are growing in the pond, and fertilizing the circulating water which feeds the crops. Off to one side of the pond is a sandy beach where kids can play. Grab a cup of tea or coffee and sit here admiring the grounds and views.  Go fishing and catch dinner!

Your own “farm to table” setting!

The learning center beside the pond houses a very robust photovoltaic system with solar panels and pumps to keep the water circulating, and the fish happy. For more details about the aquaponic system or the farm, check out the website at MauiMoonFarm.com.

The location is ocean-side of the Hana Highway, not far from the Twin Falls fruit stand and trails. This neighborhood is not part of a subdivision. No Home Owners Association here — just live the way you want to live and be in control of your own property. It’s the kind of place you can simply stay put and never need to go anywhere. You have arrived.

I’d love to show you this beautiful property — let me know if you have any questions.
