Spotlight on Lena Stroheker – Outdoor Adventurer & Maui Kiteboarder Turned Real Estate Pro

Growing up in the shadow of the Sawatch and Sangre de Cristo mountains in the charming Colorado town of Salida, Lena Stroheker gained an appetite for outdoor sports and adventure. It was only natural that she became an active, outdoorsy world traveler.

Drawn by the beauty of the islands and armed with a BSBA in Resort Management and a B.A. in International Studies, her journey led her to Maui for a contract position with Maui Jim Sunglasses, where she worked as an Events Coordinator for corporate groups. “Such a fun job and a great way to meet new hard-working people from all over the world and see the different parts of all the Hawaiian islands!!” says Lena of her first gig in Hawaii. She loved the transition to a happier, healthier lifestyle (and she hails from Colorado, so that’s saying a lot!).

When her contract concluded, Lena took some time out to cross an incredible feat off of her bucket list. With no more than a single change of clothes, a one-person tent, and a sleeping bag, she set off on the Pacific Crest Trail and completed the 2,650-mile trek on foot from Canada all the way to Mexico.

Back on Maui, Lena joined the team at Hawaii Life and what she calls her “tight-knit ‘ohana” of colleagues. “We aren’t competitors, we are family working together to get our clients the homes of their dreams.”

Lena’s mantra when it comes to her work: “Love what you do and put in the time to do it right.”

After two years serving mostly buyers on Maui, she has closed several successful transactions for her clients. She partners with other Hawaii Life agents to build a stronger network and credits one of her colleagues, in particular, for helping her along the way.” Dave Futch has been an amazing mentor and tool for me along my career path.”

She says she chose Hawai‘i Life because “it’s a local company with genuine aloha for Hawai‘i, its people, the land, and our community.”

Surfing, diving, swimming, hiking, sailing, and searching for seashells — Lena spends her free time enjoying all the outdoor pursuits that Maui has to offer. Her biggest passion is kiteboarding.

“If you haven’t done it, you need to try it! Not only are you your own sailing vessel, but you get to see the water from a whole new perspective,” says Lena. “I have kited next to baby turtles, whales, dolphins, leopard rays, manta rays, and the Hawaiian state fish – humuhumunukunukuāpuaʻa.”

“I have traveled all over the world, spending significant time on every continent and kiting in some of the most remote and surreal places, and yet I will forever call Maui my home,” says Lena.

She’s loving life on Maui. “Not only do I know all of my neighbors’ names, surf crystal clear waves, eat fresh local produce and fish, and wake to the sound of tropical birds, but I get to wake up with a smile and go to sleep with a smile knowing this is my life. Maui truly provides my body and my mind with the healthiest lifestyle I can create.”
