Ocean View Waikiki Condo with Open Floorplan Available at Scandia Towers

Scandia Towers is a small boutique condo building just 1 block off Waikiki Beach. Last year, three units sold there, all 2 bedrooms, 2 baths, all the same square footage: 863 sq.ft. of interior space with 106 sq.ft. lanais. With a range of sale prices from $350,000 – $375,000, they had an average $/sq.ft. of approximately $425.45.

Scandia Towers Condo in Waikiki Sells Fast

Currently, there is only one condo available for sale, unit #803, a 2 bedroom, 2 bath offered at $398,800 (MLS# 1210886), and while this is a slight increase in price over last year’s three sales (if it sells at asking it will go for approx. $462.22), consider this – the only other unit that was available is now in contract after 1 day.

Scandi Design

There are a number of words and phrases that signify Modernism and Modern Design: Mid-Century, Bauhaus, De Stijl (Dutch for “the style,” a movement founded in 1917) to name a few.

One of the more universally known and iconoclastic would have to be Scandi, an aesthetic that encompasses not only cleaner, simpler designs, but also looks not to the wealthy top tier for inspiration, such as say, the Baroque or Rococo periods did, but to everyday life and people and nature.

In short, it is arguably the most democratic (small ‘d’ democrat there) of all the schools of design, an ideology that doesn’t broadcast how wealthy you are by what you’re able to purchase, but rather demonstrates the joy in living well with what you have. Its values are ones we embrace here in Hawaii as well, as even the most cursory look at any Hawaiian cultural event will prove.

A simple, open layout with a view of the ocean framed by buildings, and a gorgeous view of Diamond Head from your lanai, unit #803 captures the essence of Scandi Design. So here we are then, looking at a building named for Scandi Design. Take joy in Scandia Towers, I know I do.
