Puamana Still Stands: My Camera. Our Community. Our Comeback.

There’s a moment at sunset, when the light hits the ocean at Puamana and you can’t help smiling. The wind rustles though the palm trees. The water turns gold. And for a few seconds, it’s easy to forget everything our little community has been through.

That’s exactly why I started filming.

Puamana isn’t just a neighborhood. It’s a tight-knit oceanfront community in Lahaina where generations of families like mine have put down roots, raised kids, and called this slice of West Maui home. It’s home to many kupuna who thrive on the neighborly connections. When the August 2023 wildfires swept through, some of that was taken. But not the spirit.

I started this YouTube channel because I wanted to document what no news headline or flashy clip could fully capture: the quiet, daily act of rebuilding. The neighbors and staff who show up for each other. The moment the ocean pool reopened and kids cannonballed in like no time had passed. The sound of construction where silence used to be.

What You’ll Find on This Channel

This isn’t polished TV or a flashy hard sell. I strive to be ask questions, be thoughtful and authentic with a monthly update capturing the rebuild. Here’s what I’ll cover over the next few years:

•  Community rebuild updates — from permits to finished homes, you’ll see it happen.

•  Neighbor stories — the people who make Puamana what it is, in their own words.

•  Life in Puamana — the sand (and rocks!), the sunsets, the culture, which restaurants are open, and the aloha spirit that no fire could touch.

•  Honest conversations — about grief, resilience, what was lost, and what’s being built anew.

Why It Matters

Lahaina will rebuild over the next few years. Puamana will be better than ever. But if nobody films the in-between — the messy, hopeful, human middle part — it disappears from memory. This channel is a record. A reminder that this community chose to come back.

Whether you’re a Puamana resident, a former neighbor who had to leave, a Maui local watching from across the island, or someone on da mainlan’ who fell in love with this place on a vacation years ago — this channel is for you.

Subscribe, share, and come back often. Puamana’s story is still being written
