The Problem With Stuff!

Do you have too much stuff? If you are like many people, the answer is likely, “yes.” In my business, I have often experienced the challenge of too much stuff. From a marketing point of view, a home does not show well when it is cluttered. Sellers understand this principle. They realize that a home will attract more interest when it presents well. When it is clutter-free. The problem is most homeowners don’t know what to do with their things. Figuring out what to do with all that stuff can be a daunting task, especially if you have lived in your home for a long time.

Tips For Decluttering

If you find it hard to throw or give away your things, there are some strategies that can help. For beginners, consider calling in a pro! There are professional organizers and basic move management services available to help with this often emotionally wrenching process. In fact, an entire industry of downsizing specialists has emerged. There are professionals who can help with your lifestyle transitions. They can ease the process by providing services such as space planning, decluttering, packing, supervising, cleaning, organizing, and more. Professionals are also trained to be sensitive to their client’s fears and apprehensions about making a move. They can help you feel more in control.  And, when you feel more in control of the changes taking place, you make better decisions. Smart decisions.

Whether you are downsizing or just wanting a more organized, cleaner space, consider getting help. An objective professional will pave the way to a smoother process and a better result.

If you need a reference, feel free to call me. Also, I highly recommend reading The Life-Changing Magic of Tidying Up by Marie Kondo. According to Kondo, putting things in order will not just transform your space, but will allow you to feel more confident and give you the energy and motivation to create the life you want.

I might add that putting things in order will also spark interest in the eyes of a buyer, helping you to maximize profit!

The simplest solution I have found is to put your ‘nonessential’ things in one of those portable moving/storage boxes. Once your house sells, you are already half packed up! Just have the container sent to the new address.
