Poipu Sands Condos in Kaua‘i | Ocean Views, Beach Access & Resort Living in Poipu

Located in sunny Poipu Beach on the island of Kauai is Poipu Sands which has always been a special place for me. Over the years, I’ve seen people drawn here for the same reasons I am—ocean views, easy beach access, and the generous amount of open space. 

Built in 1979 as part of the Poipu Kai Resort, Poipu Sands is made up of 72 units spread across 7.2 acres of land. That lower-density design is something we rarely see in newer developments. Most units enjoy ocean views, with the quality of those views depending on location.

Buildings 1 and 5 face directly toward the ocean, with Building 5 closest to the shoreline and offering the most direct views. Buildings 2, 3, and 4 face the onsite pool, with some offering direct ocean views and others where the best vantage point is from the lanai.

Floor plans vary between one-, two-, and three-bedroom layouts—there are only two three-bedroom units in the entire complex, the majority of the units are two-bedroom and about 13 one bedrooms. First-floor units are single-level, while second-floor units are also one level but elevated. Third-floor units have a townhouse design, with the entire top level dedicated to an en-suite bedroom and private lanai. 

Portable AC units are allowed, and while split systems aren’t permitted at this time, that could change in the future. Because these were built in 1979 there will be differences with the interior upgrades and the price will reflect that as well.

Poipu Sands allows vacation rentals, but the units are also comfortable for full-time living or extended stays. The Grand Hyatt is right next door, making it easy to enjoy an evening out without getting in the car. These condominiums have a strong following as vacation rentals, with many guests returning year after year. 

Amenities include a heated swimming pool exclusive to Poipu Sands, along with access to the main Poipu Kai pool and hot tub. There’s also 24-hour security, ample parking, and miles of walking paths connecting the Hyatt to Brennecke’s Beach.

Poipu Sands is simply a great place to be—whether you’re here for a vacation, a season, or a lifetime.
