Oak Is Out, Hemp Is In – America’s First $5.8M “HempWood” Factory Opens

“HempWood” is one of the most eco-friendly and viable wood substitutes in the World — growing around 100 times as fast as Oak — in only 120 days, compared to 50-100 years for Oak Trees.

It is also 20% stronger than Oak.

It’s a sustainable alternative for hardwood furniture, flooring, and other woodworking projects.

That is also positive news for Oak trees, as they are among the most endangered trees in the World, due to the huge demand for solid Oak furniture.

“Oak is out. Hemp is in,” says “HempWood” Founder and CEO Greg Wilson, whose 15,600-square-feet $5.8 million factory — the first in America — is now officially open for business in Kentucky.

His patented product called “HempWood” is made out of compressed hemp pulp fibers, held together with a soy-based glue.

“We’re taking something that grows in six months and we’re able to able to replicate, if not outperform, a tropical hardwood that grows in 200 years,” Wilson said at a ribbon-cutting ceremony of the Kentucky factory opening.

The “HempWood” factory will consume $1 million a year in raw materials (all coming from local farmers and neighboring counties) and have a significant impact on labor, generating another $1 million a year, reported the WPSD Local 6 News.

HempWood Rollout to Consumers

“HempWood” will be available in blocks, pre-sawn boards, flooring, and finished products such as cutting boards and skateboards — at prices lower than Oak.

“This new facility will be the first step in our rollout of HempWood and provides the ability to produce up to a million board feet of four-quarter lumber per year,” said Greg Wilson, CEO.

“We look to sell these boards to end customers and downstream manufacturers for use in flooring, furniture, and home goods made in the USA.”
