Now Open! Wai Kai Waterfront Recreation Area

wai kai recreation area

Now celebrating its grand opening, Wai Kai within the Hoakalei resort in West Oahu is a premier nine-acre waterfront recreation and lifestyle venue. The first of its kind in Hawaii and indeed unique in the globe – site of the world’s largest deep-water standing surf wave, this park also includes a 52-acre lagoon for other water sports, an event lawn with fire pits, restaurants and boutique retail shops. It is envisioned to become a destination of choice for residents and visitors alike, offering opportunities for outdoor activities, social gathering, and connecting with the Hawaiian culture. The large event space will be an asset to the Ewa Beach community and an inviting place to host festivals, parties, cultural events, and more.

The LineUP at Wai Kai is a $40 million, world-class surf park that features the Wai Kai Wave. The Wave handles up to 30 surfers at 45 minute intervals, riding waves from two- to six-feet high in three different channels. It is designed for all skill levels, from beginners to pro surfers. First-timers can sign up for a Learn-to-Surf session, while expert and pro level visitors can experience waves maxed out to generate the highest speeds possible and the hardest carving turns. Other amenities at the LineUp include a café and restaurant, surfboard rentals, lockers, and cabanas.

Wai Kai is part of the Haseko master-planned community of Hoakalei. Homeowners in the Kipuka, Kuapapa and Lei Pauku neighborhoods have exclusive access to Wai Kai Hale Club, a reserved part of the lagoon on the northeast side. While still under construction, those owners will enjoy a beach-like setting with lounge furniture, BBQ grills and an area to launch small watercraft. Members will also enjoy social gatherings and stand up paddling and yoga classes, among other events. Hoakalei is an award-winning 726-acre master-planned community, and also home to the private Ernie Els-designed Hoakalei Country Club. Future plans for the area include more commercial businesses, residences, hotels/vacation ownerships, and walking paths. If you would like more information about homes currently for sale in this dynamic and growing community, and to learn about other amenities in the area, please reach out to me, Cathy Possedi.
