Gunstock Ranch on Oahu’s North Shore Offers Tons of Kid-Friendly Fun

When you think of a visit to a ranch, do you think of wooden fences, beef cattle grazing in the sun, and maybe some trail riding? We recently discovered that Gunstock Ranch on Oahu’s North Shore is so much more than that. They offer a dizzying array of fun for the whole family. If you want to experience life as a paniolo (a Hawaiian cowboy), then this is a great place to do it!

Located in Kahuku, you’ll find the entrance to the ranch on the right (if you’re traveling from Haleiwa), just past the James Campbell National Wildlife Refuge, but before you reach the Polynesian Cultural Center. There’s a big sign out front, but for reference, Gunstock Ranch is located directly across from the Malaekahana Beach Campground.

Year-round, the ranch offers Western riding lessons, sunset rides, advanced trail rides and even sweetheart rides. But surprisingly, they also have swimming lessons, American Red Cross certification courses, kayak tours and surf lessons at nearby beaches.

You can hop on a stand-up paddleboard and cruise the river that meanders through their property on it’s way out to the sea. They also offer event spaces, which can be used for kids’ birthday parties, complete with pony rides and a guide to help keiki in and out of the saddle. Gunstock also hosts educational and private group tours of their gorgeous, sprawling property.

Fall Fun Day at Gunstock Ranch on Oahu’s North Shore

The ranch organizes unique, family-friendly events throughout the year that are worth the drive up to the North Shore, whether you live on Oahu or are vacationing here. Take, for example, their upcoming Fall Fun Day on October 28, 2017. Between 9 a.m. and 1 p.m, your family can enjoy pony rides on dressed-up horses, hayrides, pumpkin chucking, face painting, a petting zoo, a costume contest, lawn games, and more.

Naturally, there’ll be an array of food vendors to keep your tribe fed and happy, with Gunstock Ranch grass-fed beef as one of the featured dishes. But this is just one day in the calendar year. Other events throughout the year include an Easter Egg Hunt with 8,000 eggs hidden around the property, and a half marathon and 5K run, also in October.
