The town of Kamuela, which is also known as Waimea, is the largest town in the interior of the Big Island of Hawaii. It is an oasis among the Kohala Mountain Range at the base of Majestic Mauna Kea. At 2,700 feet above sea level, the climate is ideal and the views are amazing.

Speaking of views, there is an area of Waimea known as Nob Hill where the scenery is as stunning as the beautiful homes (MLS# 229204) that decorate its landscape . It is located at the base of Hoku’ula which is a Pu’u, or hill, marking the heart of Waimea town. It was in the early 1970’s that this area was affectionately named after San Francisco’s renowned Nob Hill neighborhood. Nob Hill of Waimea is a very quaint version of San Francisco’s, but similarly, it is a prestigious area where the views are breathtaking and the location is ideal.

In Waimea…Mauna Kea, Mauna Loa, and Hualalai glow in the distance, and the Kohala Mountain Range wraps around to create a panoramic experience. The volcanos stand tall and proud, eminating their enormous energy and towering over the seemingly endless Kohala coastline. It is the perfect scene of volcanic mountains stretching out and reaching down to touch the ocean. The feeling it gives me is all encompassing. I experience every emotion imaginable each time I have a chance to sit at the top of Nob Hill, breathe in the fresh country air, and soak in the colorful and magical land that surrounds me. Take drive up LaeLae Road the next time you visit Kamuela and experience the magic.

Wonderful post, Julie! Dave and I were fortunate to spend quite a few months housesitting in 2002 for a family on Nob Hill and I’ll never forget the sound of the cows “moo-ing” just behind the house…. while staring at the incredible view of three volcanoes and the gorgeous blue ocean! Nob Hill truly is a very, very special place in Waimea. Thanks for bringing back great memories!

Great info. Julie. I’m learning something every day… my Grandpa used to live in the SF Nob Hill and my Grandma owned a place in Kamuela. I had no idea…
