Military Families Flocking to West Oahu

Most people know that Hawaii has one of the largest military presences in the US. Most do not know that the military is the second largest industry in the state behind tourism. Every branch of the military has a base on the island of Oahu, and the Army alone has 22 different installations. The US military has had a presence in Hawaii since 1898, and there is no indication that will change anytime soon.

Human nature typically demonstrates that we as part of the human race seek out a community of those who are like us. This can be in appearance, social habits, or in the military’s case, work-related. Most of the military buyers seem to gravitate to living in West Oahu. This is in part to the fact that the areas such as Ewa Beach, Kapolei, and Makakilo have some of the newer and largest properties in the state. Many are also VA eligible so that the military member can use their VA benefits. Not all properties are VA eligible, and the criteria can be strict for approval. Since the VA guarantees any loans they want to make sure that the property appraises and is also in top notch shape. The last thing the VA wants is a money pit for its members or unpermitted problems.

Most of the properties in West Oahu are fully permitted and were built in the last 10 or so years, with some still being completed in 2017. This gives the VA, and the buyers, peace of mind knowing that the structures are up to code and will require less deferred maintenance in the future.

It is also comforting to know that the areas are filled with military families. This will include children and young adults that have a common bond of numerous moves in their lives. The community will all be of the same background and understand the struggles and sacrifices the military families make for our countries freedom. It will also lend itself to the support of other military spouses that can seek advice and support from one another. There are very few places you will go in West Oahu that you do not see someone in their camo’s either shopping, eating or driving in the community. If someone is deployed or working long hours, it’s nice to know that their family lives in a safe environment with other military families keeping an eye out for one another.

As a proud member of the Hawaii Life Military Specialized Team, I have had the honor of working with numerous VA buyers and sellers. I have a strong network of military lenders, companies, and affiliates that can help make the buying or selling process smooth and seamless. If you are ready, I am more then happy to help in any way possible.
