Aloha friends! This weekend on Maui brings us a few great live music options, some theater and a big game in local high school football. Kolohe Kai plays the MACC this Saturday with guests Matisyahu and Cydeways. Also on deck Saturday is Kanekoa at South Maui Gardens with Arlie Asiu opening. Sunday night, Sam Frampon and Anthony Pfluke take the stage at ProArts Maui with a benefit concert meant to help our community heal. If theater is more what you’re looking for, be sure to check out Kimberly Akimbo opening at ProArts Maui this Friday and running through October 15th. In the MIL sports world, Lahainaluna plays their first game this season against Baldwin on Saturday night.
Kolohe Kai with Matisyahu and Cydeways at the MACC
Hawaii favorite Kolohe Kai, along with special guests Matisyahu and Cydeways present a great night of reggae for Maui this Saturday. Kolohe Kai is the project of O’ahu born Ramon De Peralta who has been putting out hits since he was 17. This is a unique sound fusing ukulele with roots reggae and more recently R&B and pop. Show starts at 6:00 pm and doors open at 5:00 pm. Food and beverage available from 5:00 – 10:00 pm. Local music lovers will love this show.
Kanekoa at South Maui Gardens
Maui’s own Kanekoa will be playing at South Maui Gardens this Saturday, the 30th. Arlie Asiu is opening. Show runs from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. Gates open at 5:00 pm. 12+ Food trucks on site offer a great variety of food. Tickets are available for just $25 online and at the gate the day of the event until 5:00 pm. A percentage of the proceeds go to Maui Strong. Check out Eventbrite for tickets and more.
Kimberly Akimbo at ProArts Maui
Kimberly Akimbo opens this Friday night at ProArts Maui. The show will run through October 15th with showtimes at 7:30 pm on Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays and 2:00 pm on Sundays. This is a heartwarming and funny tale of a young woman finding light in the darkest of situations. Written by David Linsday-Abaire and directed by Carrigan O’Brian. Run time is just over 2 hours with a 15-minute intervention. Tickets range from $25-$40.
The Comedy of the Year. A haunting and hilarious new play. Mr. Lindsay-Abaire is an expert at tweaking, skewing and finally inverting established formulas. His plays tend to slide right out of predetermined pigeonholes. ‘KIMBERLY AKIMBO’ is at once a shrewd satire, a black comedy and a heartbreaking study of how time wounds everyone. -The New York Times
A Healing Evening with Sam Frampton and Anthony Pfluke
Sam Frampton and Anthony Pfluke come together to do a benefit healing show this Sunday night at ProArts Maui. Show starts at 7:00 pm. Sam and Anthony will each do their own set before joining for a set together. Show’s intention is to promote healing for our community. Proceeds benefit Wildfire Relief. Tickets run from $10 for keiki to $35 for premium seating. Run time just under 2 hours.
MIL Sports
It is week 6 of the MIL football season and Lahainaluna plays their first game this weekend. These kids have been through so much and were determined to keep their football season this year. Let’s get out and support them. They play Baldwin this Saturday at War Memorial Stadium. Game start is 7:00 pm. Friday night’s game is Maui High at Kamehameha Maui at 7:00 pm.
For 8-Man Football, my squad, Seabury, will be taking on Molokai at home. Game start is 10:00 am on Saturday. I will be there for this one. Say hi!
Also taking place this Saturday morning is the Lahaina Strong Keiki Mile Run/Walk at Kaanapali Golf Courses. Start time is 8:00 am. Proceeds benefit the Maui Strong Fund.
