Maui Weekend Events – June 16

Aloha friends! Happy Father’s Day weekend. I hope you all get to celebrate with your loved ones. Besides celebrating dad, we also celebrate King Kamehameha and his legacy this weekend with a Hoolaulea and Pa’u Parade in Lahaina. This weekend is the third race of Regatta season taking off from Kahului Harbor. Also on deck is the 24th Annual Taiko Festival Concert by Zenshin Daiko. And finally, Awalau Farms celebrates the summer solstice with a family friendly enchanted farm tour.

Saturday’s Mayor’s ‘Umeke Race takes off from Kahului Harbor at 8:00 am. This will be an all-day event with races, food and community. Check out Hawaiian Canoe Club for Race Schedule and more.

Zenshin Daiko’s 24th Annual Taiko Festival Concert

Zenshin Daiko will be celebrating with upbeat fun and boundless heart this Saturday night at the MACC’s Castle Theater. This Nonprofit organization is dedicated to teaching taiko to children. They have grown from a small local group in 1999 to one with national and international recognition. Zenshin Daiko is also a leading builder of taiko drums from used wine barrels. Show starts at 7:00 pm and doors open at 5:00 pm.

Nā Kamehameha Commemorative Pāʻū Parade and Ho’olaule’a

Celebrate King Kamehameha and his legacy this Saturday in Lahaina. The theme this year is E ala e nā kini o ka ʻāina! (Arise all people of the land!). Festivities include a Hoolaulea and a Pa’u Parade. The Hoolaualea takes place at the Banyan Tree starting at 9:00 am and running until 5:00 pm. The celebration will include an awards presentation, food booths, Maui Made crafters as well as entertainment featuring Hawaiian music and Hula. The Pa’u Parade begins at 9:45 am on Front Street from Kenui Street to Shaw Street. There will be commentary stations at 5 locations along the route including: Papalaua St., Kimo‘s, Cheeseburger in Paradise, Lahaina Pizza Co. and The Wharf Cinema Center.

ROAD CLOSURE NOTICE

Front Street will be closed to traffic starting at 8 a.m from Kenui Street to Shaw Street.

Enchanted Farm Tour at the Awalau Farm

Celebrate the Summer Solstice on Saturday by wandering down an enchanted trail full of mythical creatures. Pet and feed unicorns, dragons, flying goats, multicolored sheep, exotic alpacas and more at the Enchanted Farm Tour. Sing songs with the Mermaids, Mine for mystic gemstones and collect natural treasures. Tour runs from noon until 4:00 pm.
