Maui Weekend Events and Market Update – August 21

Aloha friends! Hope everyone is finding a little sunshine between the showers and making plans for a fun Maui weekend. There is plenty happening across the island, from food and wine at the MACC to hula, live theater, reggae, paddling, and a few real estate updates to keep an eye on. Here are a few things worth checking out this weekend.

Before we get into the weekend happenings, I want to thank you all for your support in the election. I am empowered to continue to serve Maui, Hawaii, friends and family. My goal is and always has been helping Maui and I plan to use knowledge obtained about politics to pursue that goal. I am excited to come back in two years in a different capacity. My vision is gaining momentum as people have recognized a job well done from decades of community engagement.

The campaigning element of public service was in direct opposition to my platform. I want to do the job of keeping Mauians on Maui and building our economy back in a healthy manner. The campaigning causes the stress and divisiveness that we do not need here on Maui. We all shared a message of fiscal responsibility by getting 100+ votes per dollar spent. Nearly every candidate spends dollars per vote and now has to honor promises made while campaigning. I applaud and thank all of you.

I’m excited to share my progress on my platform as soon as I am able.

Ke Alaula. A bright new day is ahead of us. Mahalo.

And now on to the fun weekend ahead.

Maui Calls

Maui Calls food and wine event this weekend

The much awaited Maui Calls. The 28th Annual Maui Calls takes place this Saturday. This is the MACC’s signature gala event and Maui’s premiere food and wine tasting event. The night will feature wines from all over the country, some of your favorite Maui restaurants and live entertainment as well as a silent auction. There are several different sponsorship levels. This is a 21 and over event.

Emma Farden Sharpe Hula Festival

Hula festival on Maui

The Emma Farden Sharpe Hula Festival takes place weekend at The Royal Lahaina Resort and Bungalows. The Maui community and visitors alike are invited to celebrate the rich tradition of hula and Hawaiian culture. Attendees can participate in workshops, watch mesmerizing performances, and immerse themselves in authentic Hawaiian experiences, making this festival a cherished highlight of the island’s summer calendar. The Aloha Friday Concert takes place on Friday from 5:30 – 8:30 pm. The main event takes place on Saturday from 10 am – 5 pm.

Footloose at Maui OnStage

Maui OnStage’s youth production of Footloose at the Historic ʻĪao Theater moved all shows to this weekend due to weather last weekend. There are shows Friday and Saturday at 7 pm and Saturday and Sunday at 2 pm. This high-energy musical follows Ren McCormack as he challenges a small town’s ban on dancing and rock music, with plenty of music, choreography, friendship, and heart along the way. Tickets are $10, doors open 30 minutes before each show, and the runtime is about 1 hour and 50 minutes including intermission. The show is rated PG for some strong language and is recommended for ages 10 and up.

Inna Vision at Da Playground Maui

Maui’s own Inna Vision brings their “Made 4 Troddin” EP Release Show to Da Playground Maui this Friday for a night of island reggae, soulful grooves, and good vibes. Doors open at 8 pm and the show starts at 9 pm. Expect rich harmonies, upbeat energy, and plenty of dancing as the band brings their signature Maui sound back to the stage after touring. This is a 21+ event, with general admission and VIP options available, and parking is free for events starting after 5 pm.

MCHCA Long Distance Season

Long Distance Season is underway, and this weekend the open-ocean action continues with the Kanahā Challenge hosted by Laeʻula O Kai on Saturday. Maui crews are shifting from regatta sprints into endurance racing, with longer courses, ocean conditions, and team rhythm taking center stage as paddlers build toward the heart of distance season. Check out Hawaiian Canoe Club for the Race Schedule and more.

Anything Else This Weekend or Next?

I am always looking to promote other weekend activities for Maui organizations. If we are missing anything, drop me a line any time for future happenings. Mahalo!!!

Real Estate

Market Update

Uncertainty continues with Real Estate as non-residential owners are beginning to look elsewhere and regulations are hastening the process for them. Savvy Buyers have been identifying and scooping these opportunities. Will you be ready to buy? Many buyers are getting prequalified for loans now in anticipation of the market improving.  Investors are refinancing to use equity lines to make cash offers which appeal to Sellers in multiple offer situations or using 1031 funds that have to be earmarked for real estate purchases. I love having 1031 Buyers on my clients’ listings. Have questions to help you prepare?  Let’s get our checklist together.

Latest Maui Figures

As of August 20th,  Maui County has 249 pending transactions and 1630 active for 13.2%. We’ve held over 12 since the last update. Hopefully, we will be able to stick the 13’s and continue to increase this figure.

Hot Listings

I have been busy working on a project that will be coming to market soon. 20 acres of ocean view organic farmland in Waiehu! I’m so excited to share Kuawa Olu with you all. Stay tuned!

If Kuawa Ola isn’t for you, here are 2 nearby listing that we at Hawaii Life also represent. MLS 407206 on Malaihi Road shares a neighbor and the same water flume that travels to Kihei from Waihe’e. This property has multiple rentals for income from 6 homes for over $11,000 and totals 34.7 acres for $2.75 million. As we discussed, this Seller (as many do) wants to see proof of funds from any buyer for showings.

Want closer to the beach?  Lower Waiehu Beach Road has MLS 406777. 5-bedroom home with 2-bedroom ohana across street from the ocean. Great 2 story home has been a successful investment property. It would also be a great owner-occupied home offering easy beach access for nearby surfing, fishing, strolls. Close to everything in town. It’s a great area.

I am here to go over latest figures and discuss your plans for Real Estate on Maui.
