Living on the Hawaii Kai marina is always fun and even more so during the holidays. The Festival of Lights, also known as the Hawaii Kai Holiday Boat Parade, is a beautiful event.
This year on Saturday, December 7 beginning at sunset, 30 + decorated boats will line up and pass through most parts of the Hawaii Kai marina. Viewing is easy from each of the three marina front shopping centers — Koko Marina, Hawaii Kai Towne Center (Costco) and the Hawaii Kai Shopping Center (Safeway).
As much fun as this parade is, it is also very competitive. There are monetary prizes ranging from $500 to $2500. For participation and completion, each boat owner receives a gift of $100. There are categories as well, small to large crafts compete against their own size. May the best decorators win!
If you are lucky enough to live on the marina or know someone hosting one of the parties, you can have a front-row seat.
