Maalaea Surf: A Boutique Polynesian Era Resort in Prime Maui Location

The boutique polynesian era resort of Maalaea Surf sits on the Kihei shore of Maalaea Bay. The grounds are home to only 59 one and two bedroom units spread out in 8 buildings on over 5 acres of beachfront property. The enclave of buildings was built in the early 70’s era.

Property Layout

The 1 bed/1 bath units sit between a single level 2 bedroom unit on each side. The upper 2 bedroom unit floorplan matches the 1 bedroom floorplan with an added loft bed/bath above.

  • 15 downstairs 2 bedroom units, 22 one bedroom units, 22 upstairs 2 bedroom units
  • Living Areas: 1 bed/1 bath: 759 square feet, Downstairs 2 bed/2 bath: 1,086 square feet, Upstairs 2 bed/2 bath: 1,101 square feet
  • Units by Building: 6 A Building: 6 B Building: 6 C Building: 10 D Building: 10 E Building: 6 F Building: 5 (+ manager’s office) G Building: 10 H Building

Historically, the downstairs 2 bedroom units fetch the highest prices, followed by the upstairs 2 bedroom units, and then the 1 bedroom units. The A, D, and H buildings are direct oceanfront and also add to premium pricing in sales and vacation rental nightly fees. The A, B, D, F, and H building face West toward the island of Lana’i while the C and G building have a more Southerly view toward the islands of Molokini and Kaho’olawe. A few of the C and G units also have views of Pu’u Olai, home to Makena’s Little Beach. The E building also faces West toward Maalaea Harbor.

The location is convenient for wind sports for kitesurfing and windsurfing as it is a 10 minute drive to Kanaha or 2 minute drive to the Kihei launch sites. Visitors often stay for weeks to months to relax or explore Maui. Miles of white sandy beach in both directions to Maalaea Boat Harbor to the right and all of Kihei, South Maui to the left.

Kiting, windsurfing, SUP downwinders at your doorstep

How do people describe Maalaea Surf? Common themes/terms from guests and owners alike that I have picked up on over the years: spacious, romantic, peaceful, beautiful, Hawaiiana, comfortable, unwind, exercise, bygone era of Maui, location, sugary sand, whale watching, sunsets…

More Information

After representing Buyers and Sellers at Maalaea Surf since 2000, I have a strong sense of the value of the complex. I love the property and the current and past owners that I have helped over the years. If you have any questions, or want to know when other units come to market or may come to market, contact me to get on my update contact list.

Many of these condominiums sell without going on the market. Historically, many Buyers will start with a 1 bedroom and then purchase a 2 bedroom when the right one for them comes to market. Thank you for enjoying and asking any questions.
