Let’s Go B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

ALOHA friends,

Can we eat apple and banana together? Sure, BUT the taste is nothing compared to the actual “apple bananas” that grow here in  Hawai’i. They are sweet, short and fat, and with a slight apple-like scent.

The banana is not native to Hawai’i. The Polynesians are believed to have introduced them to Hawaii in 1855. They are now grown commercially throughout the state, with approximately  730 harvested acres state-wide. Major growing areas on Hawaii island are Puna, Hilo, and the Hamakua CoastCavendish and Brazilians are the two major types of dessert bananas in Hawaii. You can eat them whole or use them for cooking, baking or even enjoy them “deep-fried.” Yes, the “deep-fried” apple bananas lumpia is one of the local’s favorite!

So now that you know what types of bananas growth in Hawai’i, let’s go B-A-N-A-N-A-S!

  • What do you call 2 banana skins? A pair of slippers.
  • Why are bananas never lonely? They hang around in bunches.
  • What do bananas say when they answer the phone? Yellow.

Ok, no more “banana jokes” they are not appealing!

Hope you enjoy my blog, as I wrote it for you.

MAHALO!
Sylvie
