Kona Board of Realtors Award Erik Hinshaw “Rookie of the Year”

Last week at the Kona Board of Realtors Annual Membership Meeting, Hawaii Life’s Erik Hinshaw, R(S), was awarded the distinction, “Rookie of the Year.”

Erik receiving his award from Margaret Reynolds, R(B)

This award is special for Realtors in that it’s peer-based, and Erik was competing with four other agents to win. On the heels of one of the worst real estate markets in recent history, it’s a testament to Erik and his dedication to his craft, that so many of his peers would notice—and appreciate—all that he has accomplished this past year.

Okay, so 2010 wasn’t his first year in real estate, and “rookie” might be pushing the descriptive envelope for Erik, but like the vast majority of Realtors struggling to survive in 2008 & 2009 (many didn’t, nearly 35% of the Kona Board of Realtors members left the business) Erik spent a lot of time learning, networking, and beating on sellers to lower their asking prices in keeping with the new world order.

Fast forward to November 2010—and just try to keep up with the rocket ship named Erik Hinshaw. While this award is not business volume-based, Erik’s production is certainly worth noting: Just over $4M sold, 13 transactions in 10 months. Um, wow. I’m not sure where that puts Erik in terms of his competition, and I know it doesn’t matter to him, because for Erik, it’s about his clients—the people that he serves day in and day out. Ultimately, that’s the reason Erik so deserves this recognition—each and every day Erik lives and breathes a higher level of service—where his clients are treated like people, not a commission dollar amount, or transaction number, but a person.

Congratulations, Erik! It is my honor and privilege to work for you as your Broker. You make me a better BIC—you encourage teamwork and cooperation among our Hawaii Life ‘ohana, and you truly lead by example. Well done! Now, go sell. Oops, I mean, keep on serving your peeps!

Congrats, Erik. Obviously a very well-deserved recognition, based not only on volume (which is impressive enough), but also on your embodiment of the Aloha Spirit.

Thanks Katie. Thanks all of you. It has been a great year for me and the recognition from my fellow real estate agents means a lot.

As for focusing on people I have Hawaii Life to thank for that. At other companies I spent all my time and energy on creating marketing and searching for sales leads. Can’t say I enjoyed it at all.

Hawaii Life has taken care of both of these tasks for me so now I can concentrate on my clients and what they need. I get to spend my days driving around and looking at houses up and down the Kona Coast with clients from all over the world. Life is good.

Aloha and congratulations Erik!!! You are truly deserving of this recognition. For anyone who may be wondering, as clients, we were always treated as people and never as a commission source. Our property search lasted for months and ranged from Kona to the Kohala Coast. Erik was always more than willing to show us anything we wanted to see. And Katie was there also. Your help was invaluable in helping us find the right property for us. Best wishes for continued success.

As Debra and Tommy Chambers (the people who write our paychecks ) state ” we were always treated as People” , Erik, you are the man!
This is such an incredible honor for you to be recognized by your peers. To step up in a tough market and focus on what the needs of your clients are is truly what this business is all about. The good news is, you made enough money this year to “pay taxes first”, pay your “bills second” and hopefully you have enough left over to eat. You will be a success in the future. Please ask Debra and Tommy for a few referrals, they are your true fans and nobody matters more than them!

Debra & Tommy Thanks. Can’t wait to see you both. We had to kiss a lot of toads along the way but I think we found you the perfect place.

Tracy, Thanks for the encouragement. It means a lot coming from you. As soon as I can find some time Im gonna come over and check out that fish pond. Need some inspiration for my lower half acre here in Captain Cook.

Beth, Your encouragement and advice has been of immense help. Couldn’t ask for a better teammate. I’ll be up for a dog run soon to collect that lei.

Winston, Thanks for making us all look so good. (I only wish you had been the photographer at the event. Not my best pic.)

Kathy, This team of ours makes it easy. Gives us that time to spend with clients. Im sure your gonna do great too.

Justin, Thanks so much. You have made such a huge impact on my career. You connected me with Debra and Tommy and all of my other clients/friends. Couldn’t have done it without you and I am forever grateful.

Dano,Thanks for the kind words. Can’t wait to get over to Maui and check out what’s happening at Wailea.

Pam, You know how much your advice and good humor means to me. You have been there through every twist and turn and I can’t wait to see what we can do next year.

Mahalo All.
