Introducing Maui’s Newest Modern Oceanfront Project: The QK House

Breaking News: Hawaii Life Agent Antagonizes Modern Homebuyers with Meanest Post Ever

Warning: This article is just DOWNRIGHT MEAN! — Why? Because I’m publishing an article on a Real Estate website about a house that is not for sale. But despair not, ye faithful architecture lovers, because buried within the following words lies the cryptographic secret to unleashing your own modern masterpiece.

QK House: Inspired by Brazil, Shaped by Maui

Welcome to the QK House — a North Shore Maui project inspired by Brazilian architect Marcio Kogan’s Paraty house, but perfected by a successful collaboration between its owner, a Canadian entrepreneur, and Maui-born architect Peter Niess of Maui Architectural Group. The house takes some genesis design cues from the commanding Paraty house, but pares down its size to a scale much more in keeping with the laid back north shore culture.

Double Breeze Boxes and a Living Roof

The project consists of two rectangular spaces that I call breeze boxes — since they allow the plentiful trades to move through the house while offering shade and cover from the random warm rains of this part of Maui. The front box boasts a living roof covered with tropical grasses and Lava rock — essentially hiding itself from the first box. Brilliant! The property sits on former pasture land that gently slopes to a commanding cliff and the raging Pacific Ocean below — always within earshot. Giant custom windows and doors create floating transparency and allow superb connection to the rugged beauty of the location. For more photos and information, visit the article at Modern on Maui.

Building a Modern House on Maui

While we have some remarkable examples of modern architecture on Maui that are currently for sale — for instance, the Maui Clifftop House in Kahakuloa, some architecture lovers have decided they want to initiate their own creativity and start from scratch. Both approaches will make you happy! If you’re of the latter, please reach out to me since I have the ability to help you find meaningful land, and can introduce you to people who can make the magic happen.
