Hurricane Lowell Update

It has been several weeks since Hurricane Lowell hit Kauaʻi, and I wanted to share an update on how things are going here on the North Shore.

The storm was a difficult experience for many people, but what has stood out to me is how the community has come together. Neighbors have helped neighbors, people have stepped up to assist those in need, and local organizations have worked hard to get resources to the families and businesses that need them. This is one of the things I have always appreciated about living on Kauaʻi.

Over the past few weeks, tourists have been returning, and all of the small businesses and hotels on the North Shore are open. It is good to see people coming back and local businesses getting some momentum again. Tourism is an important part of our economy, and supporting the restaurants, shops, hotels, and other small businesses that make this community what it is goes a long way.

There is still work to be done. Some families are dealing with repairs and unexpected expenses, and it will take time for everyone to get back to normal. For those who are still looking to help with the recovery, there are several local organizations doing good work on the ground.

Organizations Making a Difference

The Hanalei Initiative — hanaleiinitiative.org

The Hanalei Initiative is providing direct assistance to the North Shore community and working to get resources where they are needed most. For anyone looking to help locally, this is a good place to start.

Mālama Kauaʻi — malamakauai.org

Mālama Kauaʻi is providing direct support to families affected by the storm. Its work is helping people manage the practical challenges that come with an event like this.

Kauaʻi Food Bank — kauaifoodbank.org

The Kauaʻi Food Bank is helping provide food and essential resources to people across the island. Access to these basics can make a real difference for families facing difficult circumstances.

If you are in a position to help, I encourage you to consider supporting these organizations. They are doing important work for our community, and continued support will help as people work through the months ahead.

For those thinking about visiting Kauaʻi, please know that the North Shore is open and welcoming visitors. Come stay, enjoy the beaches, eat at our local restaurants, and spend time in the community. Your visit supports the people and businesses that make this place special.

We have a long way to go in some areas, but there is also a lot of positive momentum. People are helping each other, visitors are returning, and the community is moving forward.  Mahalo to everyone who has helped, donated, volunteered, or simply checked in on a friend or neighbor.

We look forward to seeing you on Kauai.
