Waimea Town: Cowboy Country in Hawaii
Waimea is the largest town in the interior of the Big Island and is the center for ranching activities and paniolo (cowboy) culture. The Parker Ranch in and around Waimea is the largest privately owned cattle ranch in the US and the annual Fourth of July rodeo is a major event.
Waimea is also home to the headquarters of two astronomical observatories located on Mauna Kea: the W. M. Keck Observatory and the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope.

Hope you liked the episode with my clients, (and friends), Kai and Coralie Ohuchi! They had a hard time deciding where to actually settle down because both Waimea and the resorts, (like Mauna Lani), are such great places to live a Hawaii Life. Waimea kind of reminds me of rural parts of the US, but close to a beach. The resorts are all about fun in the Hawaii sun!

My husband and I really enjoy the show. We had our first visit May 2012 and fell in love..like so many others. We stayed on Oahu for 2 wks and took a plane over to the Big Island for one day. I think my main concern when watching the show is that all the homes are so expensive. So it seems out of reach for us to ever be able to come to live on one of the islands. Is that the way it really is? We are from South Carolina.

Aloha Tracy! If the homes here seem more expensive to you than South Carolina, you could look at your financial picture and decide if you are going to retire here or need income from a job to purchase and live here. Do you work in S. Carolina now?

This price range in North Kona is pretty much starter homes or fixer uppers. have you seen any so far on the website? Are you looking now to make your move? I’m asking because our “real estate bubble” happened along with the rest of the US in late 2007, but prices are now stabilizing and are creeping up in most areas.

I would like to know if there are any properties that would sell on land contract since me and my daughter are both disabled and are on a fixed income. i would be able to pay 1500.00 per month or a little more. we would need three bedroom and i dont need to be on the beach. please contact me by email.
